Chapter - The House on Lafayette Street The Jackson House is a region. Front Yard, Front Porch, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Hall, Attic, Bernie and Lonnie's bedroom, bathroom, Melody's Room, Enclosed Back Porch, Stairwell, Basement Proper, Lonnie's Sewing Room, Oil Drum room, Furnace area, Laundry area are in The Jackson House. Front Yard is a room. The description of the Front Yard is "[If Front Yard is unvisited]You are standing on the sidewalk looking at a green, single-story home. There is a short cement path leading to the front steps here, bordered by two small patches of lawn. Behind you is a small grassy area, with two trees. Beyond that is the street (obviously), and across the street is a small building which some say is a weather station. The only path you can currently take is north to the house, as some sort of mystical barrier (sorry, I can't keep this up, it's just that anything beyond this house is well beyond the scope of this game, for lack of a better term. You might call that lazy writing, but ...you know what, who asked you!" Flyer is a thing in the Front Yard. "There's a scrap of paper lying on the ground." The description of the flyer is "You can find all of the Melody Jackson books (and more) at melody.lafayettestreetbooks.com and follow all related news about the progress of this game and other Melody Jackson related news on twitter @BooksLafayette" After taking the flyer: say "You have earned 1 point for accepting our advertisement."; award 1 point. Front Porch is north of Front Yard. The description of the front porch is "[If front porch is unvisited]As you climb up the three stone steps, you find yourself standing in front of a screen door. There is a small mailbox attached to the wall. The porch extends the full length of the front of the house, bordered with a white fencing. There are two windows on either side of the door." The Front Door is a closed locked door. The Front Door is north of Front Porch. The Mailbox is a fixed in place closed openable container in the Front Porch. The Mailbox contains a skeleton key and no mail. The skeleton key unlocks the Front Door. The description of the mailbox is "This is just a standard mailbox. It's flat, and black and fixed to the wall. There are some faded numbers on it which you can't quite make out. (If you think this is for purposes of anonymity, you are just being paranoid.) There is a small lid on top of it which can be opened to allow mail to be deposited." The description of the key is "While this key is definitely odd, it's not made from an actual skeleton. Is that really what you thought a skeleton key is made from?! Are you completely daft?! It simply means that it will open any ....Nope! You may think you have just tricked me into telling you all of the secrets of the Skeleton Key, but you have not, my friend There are still many -- MANY mysteries.........fine, it opens any door. Happy?! Have fun enjoying the rest of this game!!!" The description of the no mail is "You are holding in your hand absolutely nothing. I'm just a narrator, and clearly not a philosopher, but as a concept this wad of no mail is merely a representation of the potentiality of envelopes and packages which COULD exist but currently do NOT. Perhaps one day these will be physical constructs, but at this moment -- as Aristotle once famously said -- a letter not in the box is still worth no less than a dead bird in the nest." After opening the front door: say "Nicely done, but that was the easiest of these puzzles. I practically gave it away, so don't let it go to your head."; award 3 points. Living-Room is north of Front Door. Dining-Room is north of Living-Room. There is an object called a Piano. Kitchen is north of Dining-Room. "The Kitchen is in disarray. The panels are missing from the cupboards, exposing cup and saucery innards. Missing, too, are the handles from all of the drawers. It looks as though, you would need a knife to open the silverware drawer, for example. Although, how one might accomplish this without first opening the silverware drawer is unknown. There is a fridge to the right of you, with an old looking microwave oven on top of it." The fridge is a closed openable container in the kitchen. In the fridge is a bowl of old mac'n'cheese and a half empty jar of mayo. The fridge is fixed in place. The description of the fridge is "Lonnie Jackson is quite adamant that this refrigerator is past its prime and needs to be replaced." The microwave is a closed openable container in the kitchen. The microwave contains some bun crumbs. The microwave is fixed in place. The description of the microwave is "This is an late model, off-brand device. The lazy-Susan function hasn't worked for years, and the chili splatters have been baked on to the point where no amount of scrubbing with remove them. It's on the to be replaced list"
