"Lost Keys" by Giovanni Bautista Use no scoring. When play begins: say "You feel as if you're suddenly waking from a daze. You're fully dressed for work it seems, but not much else is clear. 'What the heck happened?', you think. You check your watch. 8:00 a.m., it's time to go to work. You check your pockets. You have your phone, wallet, and house keys, but you don't see your car keys." After going when the turn count is three: say "As you walk, you notice your gait feels unsteady and your limbs feel oddly weightless. Your brain still feels foggy and your memory is hazy. You try to recall what you did last night after work, but nothing comes to mind. You have no memories between when you left work yesterday and when you found yourself in the kitchen a few minutes ago trying to find your keys."; continue the action. Instead of going to the kitchen for the third time: say "All of a sudden you hear a loud, crashing noise and a faint clicking sound coming from the front door."; now the front door is unlocked; continue the action. The Kitchen is a room. The description of the kitchen is "You're in the middle of the kitchen scanning around for your keys. It looks sunny outside. [paragraph break]To the east is the dining room, and to the west is the living room. To the south of the kitchen is the entryway of the house." The stove is in the kitchen. The description of the stove is "An electric stove with an attached oven. Both look new or, at least, barely used. However, you do see the oven light is on." Understand "stovetop" as the stove. The oven is a closed, openable container in the stove. The oven is undescribed. Understand "oven door" as oven. Instead of opening the oven: say "It's empty and looks brand new. There aren't any oven racks inside. 'That's weird', you mutter. You don't have much time to think about it though, you've got to get going to work soon." The Living Room is a room. It is west of the kitchen. The description of the living room is "This is an ordinary living room. You could almost call it generic. There is a maroon rug with a vague geometric pattern covering most of the floor. There is a large brown couch facing a new-looking television. The television is standing on a small rectangular TV stand." The TV stand is in the Living Room. The description of the TV stand is "It's a light brown TV stand in pristine condition. You can't see a single scratch, ding, or stain on it. There is an attached drawer." The drawer is a closed, openable container in the living room. The drawer is undescribed. Understand "cabinet" as the drawer. Instead of opening the drawer: say "The drawer is empty except for a small black book. It looks kind of like a bible, but something seems strange about it." The book is an object in the living room. The book is undescribed. The description of the book is "As you pick up the book and leaf through it you realize you can't understand a word of it. The book seems to be written in a completely foreign language that almost looks like random scribbles. The writing doesn't look like any kind of alphabet or letters you've ever seen. Some of the pages are also completely blank." The Dining Room is a room. It is east of the kitchen. The description of the dining room is "The dining room has a large rectangular dining table in the center of it. The table looks like it could seat about seven to nine people. 'Why did I buy such a big dining table when I live alone? I've got to start being smarter with my money.' you think to yourself. In fact, you could have sworn you had a smaller table, but there's no time to think about that right now. 'I can't be late for work again.', you tell yourself." The liquor cabinet is an object in the dining room. The description of the liquor cabinet is "As you examine the liquor cabinet, you notice quite a few of the bottles are missing most of their contents. 'Did I...', you question. 'That can't be', you think, 'I don't remember drinking anything last night. That being said, I don't remember much of anything'." Understand "cabinet" as the liquor cabinet. The Entryway is a room. It is south of the kitchen. The description of the Entryway is "A small, narrow room leads to the front door. There's an empty coat rack and a shoe rack by the side of the door." The coat rack is an object in the entryway. The description of the coat rack is "An ordinary coat rack with nothing on it." The shoe rack is an object in the entryway. The description of the shoe is "There is only one pair of shoes on the rack. A pair of cowboy boots. This is strange considering you've never worn cowboy boots, but you don't have much time to think about it. Your boss warned you what would happen if you were late one more time." The cowboy boots are an object in the entryway. The cowboy boots are undescribed. Understand "boots" as cowboy boots. The description of the cowboy boots is "Brown leather, generic-looking boots. You feel inside and shake them around on the off-chance that your keys might have found their way inside these strange boots. Unfortunately, your keys are not there." The front door is a locked door in the entryway. The front door is south of the entryway. Understand "door" as the front door. Instead of opening the door when the front door is locked: say "The door seems like it's locked or jammed somehow. You push against it hard, but it won't budge. 'What's going on? How did that happen?' you think. You stand there puzzled for a moment. 'I guess I'll figure something out once I have those darn keys' you say to yourself.'" After opening the front door: say "The door swings open. The sky has turned dark and cloudy. A storm is raging. You see lightning strike off in the distance. All of a sudden you see a bright flash of light and feel a jolt through your entire body. [paragraph break]All of a sudden you find yourself staring up at a ceiling. You look around and realize you're lying in your bed. You feel your heart racing. You look over to your bedside table and see your car keys sitting on the table. 'That was all a dream? It felt so real.' you mutter. You lie there feeling confused and exhausted, as you think about the dream you just had. However, your thinking is cut short. Your alarm rings. It's time to go to work."; end the story.
