"An Alchemical Adventure" by Bandera Giorgio Section - Starting the game Use no scoring. Mapping is an action applying to nothing. Understand "map" as mapping. Have fun![roman type] ---- [bold type]Introduction:[roman type][line break] You've arrived in the alchemy lab at the usual morning hour to help out your mentor like you do any other day, only to find out that he is missing. This is unusual, given that the lab is located next to the physician's house where he lives. You decide to start looking for clues. The lab is divided into 4 sections: the distillery, the herb greenhouse, the cauldron room and the alchemy lab hallway. You are currently in the hallway." Section - General An object can be private. An object is usually not private. An object can be crushed or uncrushed. An object is usually uncrushed. The Shish is a number that varies. The Shish is usually 0. The Lel is a number that varies. The Lel is usually 0. The Meh is a number that varies. The Meh is usually 0. Talking is an action applying to one thing. Understand "talk to [something]" as talking. Instead of talking the mouse, try examining the noun instead. Carry out talking: say "You can't talk to that.". Check taking an object: if the noun is private, say "You can't take that." instead. Instead of drinking something: say "You probably shouldn't drink stuff at random in an alchemy lab, it may be dangerous.". Instead of eating something: say "You probably shouldn't eat stuff at random in an alchemy lab, it may be dangerous.". Instead of dropping the Excerpts of master-level alchemy: say "You shouldn't drop that, it may be useful!" instead. Instead of dropping the recipe book: say "You shouldn't drop that, it may be useful!" instead. Carry out taking the recipe book: now lel is 1. The Framed Quote is an object. It is private. The description is "An old page is framed and hung on the wall. It reads 'Even the smallest of creatures can be of great help, they are very sensitive to [bold type]what you are carrying[roman type] and may react in a different way if you are carrying the right object [bold type]when looking at them.' [roman type]You don't know what this means but the information may prove useful.". The Red Potion is an object. The description is "A strange red potion you created by mixing a blisterwort with a blue dragonfly. You are not sure about its purpose but you shouldn't drink it.". The Blue Potion is an object. The description is "A strange blue potion you created by mixing a firefly thorax and a thistle branch. You are not sure about its purpose but you shouldn't drink it.". The Small strongbox is an object. It is an openable container. It is lockable and locked. It is private. The Silver Key unlocks The small strongbox. The description is "A precious silver key that was given to you by a mouse. You are sure you've seen it before, maybe carried around by your master?". The Large Cauldron is an object. It is a container. It is private. The Warbler Egg is an object. The description is "The egg of a bird. You have no idea how it ended up under that table, but it's probably important if it's in this laboratory.". The Firefly Thorax is an object. The description is "The thorax of a firefly found in a book. It is old and well conserved, the master probably uses it as an ingredient to brew potions.". Before examining the firefly thorax: if the noun is crushed, say "The crushed remains of a firefly thorax. It can now be put in the brewer." instead. The Thistle Branch is an object. The description is "The branch of a thistle plant. You were able to take it evading its prickles." Before examining the thistle branch: if the thistle branch is not carried by the player, say "You can see a thistle plant, despite its numerous prickles, you should be able to tear a branch off and carry it with you." instead. Before examining the thistle branch: if the noun is crushed, say "The crushed remains of a thistle branch. It can now be put in the brewer." instead. The Blue Dragonfly is an object. The description is "The dragonfly you caught in the greenhouse. You almost feel bad for killing the creature, but then again there were a lot in there.". Before examining the blue dragonfly: if the blue dragonfly is not carried by the player, say "There are a lot of blue dragonflies flying around various plants. You should be able to easily catch one by hand due to their large number." instead. Before examining the blue dragonfly: if the noun is crushed, say "If you were not feeling guilty for killing the creature before, you should feel guilty now for crushing it." instead. The Blisterwort is an object. The description is "A rare kind of mushroom. If it was in the master's cauldron it probably means it's important.". Understand "mushroom" as the blisterwort. Before examining the blisterwort: if the noun is crushed, say "The crushed remains of the mushroom you found. It can now be put in the brewer." instead. Before taking the blisterwort: if the noun is inside the large cauldron, say "You pull the blisterwort out of the water that was in the cauldron.". Section - Those damn Excerpts The Excerpts of master-level alchemy book is an object. The description is "There is a bookmarked page. It reads: 'By [bold type]putting[roman type] a warbler egg, a blue potion and a red potion [bold type]into[roman type] the cauldron, you can create a potion able to reverse almost every effect of another potion!' You don't know why your mentor would make a potion like this, but if the page was bookmarked, then it's probably the clue he left you!". Before examining the excerpts of master-level alchemy for the first time: move the Firefly Thorax to the location of the player; say "As you open the book, a squeezed firefly thorax falls from the cover and the first page of the book. It is very old and well conserved. You should take it, but don't forget to actually check the book now." instead. Section - Win Condition After inserting the red potion into the large cauldron for the first time: say "You've poured the red potion into the cauldron."; remove the red potion from play; increase shish by 1. After inserting the blue potion into the large cauldron for the first time: say "You've poured the blue potion into the cauldron."; remove the blue potion from play; increase shish by 1. After inserting the warbler egg into the large cauldron for the first time: say "You've put the egg into the cauldron. It disappears under the water."; remove the warbler egg from play; increase shish by 1. Every turn: if shish is 3, end the story saying "You see the mouse rushing through the door, jumping onto the handler of the cauldron and then into the bubbling cauldron itself. Before you even realise what's going on, a plume of smoke rises as the bubbling sound intensifies. With a puff of smoke, you hear the sound of a small explosion and the entire room becomes foggy. As the smoke dissipates, you see your teacher, the great physician Kaserwingle Duperfurble, standing in front of you with a smile that could be seen even through his long white beard and thick moustache. 'Good job my boy! I knew you could do it!' he says happily. 'In my yesterday's experiment I tried to transform lead into gold, but something went wrong when I drank the potion that would have granted me the power and I got transformed into a mouse! I guess that's a lesson learned not to try something like that ever again, hey? Anyways, thanks for helping me return human again, you've proven yourself as a real alchemist! Say, how about I promote you from a regular student to my personal assistant? You'll be free to use all the equipment you may deem necessary to improve your skills! After all, you've successfully followed the instructions of my recipe book AND of my 'excerpts of master-level alchemy'! Thanks again my boy! Section - Alchemy Lab The Alchemy Lab Hallway is a room. "The hallway of the laboratory of your teacher, the grand physician Kaserwingle Duperfurble. " The player is in the alchemy lab hallway. A table is here. A Note is on the table. The note is private. The description is "'Dear student, if you can't find me this morning, it probably means that my yesterday's experiment was a failure! Fortunately I had predicted it and left some clues that will allow you to revert the effects! I'm counting on you!'" A Mouse is on the table. The mouse is an animal. The description is "A small mouse is standing next to the note, it looks like it wants to tell you something." Before examining the mouse: if lel is 0, continue the action. Check examining the mouse: if lel is 1, move the silver key to the location of the player. Carry out examining the mouse: if lel is 1, say "The mouse looks at you and sees that you are carrying the recipe book! He reveals a silver key from under a nearby book on the table. Looks like he wants you to have it, you should take it.". After examining the mouse: if lel is 1, now lel is 4. A Map is on the table. The description is "The Distillery is west of the Alchemy Lab. The Cauldron Room is north of the Alchemy Lab. The Herb Greenhouse is east of the Alchemy Lab. Pick me up for future reference!". Instead of looking under the table for the first time: say "You've found a warbler egg! You should pick it up!"; move The Warbler Egg to the location of the player. Section - Using the Pestle Crushing is an action applying to one thing. Understand "Crush [something]" as crushing. Before crushing the blue dragonfly: say "Without a hint of regret, you squash the creature in the pestle until little remains.". Before crushing the Warbler Egg: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing the Pestle: say "How are you going to crush the pestle using the pestle?" instead. Before crushing the Brewer: say "You can't possibly crush the brewer in the pestle (and you shouldn't anyways)." instead. Before crushing the Framed Quote: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing the Red Potion: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing the Blue Potion: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing the Recipe Book: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing the Silver Key: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing the Excerpts of master-level alchemy: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing the Map: say "You can't crush that." instead. Before crushing something: if the noun is crushed, say "You've already crushed [the noun]." instead. Check crushing: if the pestle is not visible, say "You need the pestle to crush something." instead. Carry out crushing something: say "You've successfully crushed [the noun]"; now the noun is crushed. Section - Brewing Brewing it with is an action applying to two things. Understand "brew [something crushed] with [something crushed]" as brewing it with. Pointless-brewing it with is an action applying to two things. Instead of brewing the firefly thorax with thistle branch, try brewing the thistle branch with the firefly thorax instead. Carry out brewing: say "This combination doesn't work.". Section - Distillery The Distillery is a room. "The distillery is where ingredients are mixed and potions are brewed. You can see various chemical equipment here that you are normally not supposed to tamper with. " The Distillery is west of the Alchemy Lab hallway. A Framed Quote is in the distillery. A Brewer is in the distillery. It is private. The description is "The brewer is required to brew potions. It is equipped with 2 vials that allow the ingredients to be mixed up into the final product, that is stored in a larger bottle. Use the brewer by [bold type]brewing[roman type] something [bold type]with[roman type] something else. [line break]You must crush the items using the pestle before you can brew them!" A Pestle is in the distillery. It is private. The description is "The pestle is used to mash ingredients into powder or smaller pieces so that they can fit in the vials of the brewer. Use the pestle by [bold type]crushing the object.[roman type]" Section - Herb Greenhouse The Herb Greenhouse is a room. "The Greenhouse is where your teacher grows all the plants he uses to make his potions. The room is hot and wet, as the sun pierces through the glass ceiling. You see all kinds of plants, herbs and mushrooms growing here, aswell as numerous insects flying around." The Herb Greenhouse is east of The Alchemy Lab hallway. The Hanged Reminder is an object. It is private. It is in the Herb Greenhouse. The description is "Personal reminder: I should[bold type] look under[roman type] the furniture in the hallway, if I remember correctly one of the important ingredients I need for my potion has accidentally rolled underneath. [line break]-the Physician.". A Thistle Branch is here. Before taking the thistle branch: say "You carefully tear off the branch evading the prickles.". A Blue Dragonfly is here. Before taking the blue dragonfly: say "You catch by hand the blue dragonfly, it was easy because there were a lot! The creature is likely to die in your pocket, but you were probably going to use it to brew some potion anyways.". Section - Cauldron Room The Cauldron Room is a room. "The Cauldron room is where you can mix bigger ingredients to create larger products by using the cauldron. The physician also uses this room as an office. You are normally not allowed here, but this is an emergency!". The Cauldron Room is north of The Alchemy Lab hallway. A Large Cauldron is in the Cauldron Room. The description is "The master's favourite cauldron. You should only use this when the brewer alone is not enough. There is some water in the cauldron and the hearth underneath it glows dimly.". A window is here. It is private. The window can be open or closed. The window is open. The description is "The window in the master's office is usually kept open to let out the fumes of the cauldron.". Instead of closing the window: say "The window should be kept open, since you are probably going to need to use the cauldron.". Instead of opening the window: say "The window is already open. You can see sheets hanged to dry from the balconies of other houses billowing in the gentle spring breeze.". The Recipe Book is in the Cauldron Room. The description is "There is a bookmarked page, it reads: 'To create a red potion, mix a mushroom with an insect in the brewer. To create a blue potion, mix a plant with the body of an insect in the brewer.' You realise that the bookmarked page could be one of the clues your master left you, it must be important!". A Small strongbox is in the Cauldron Room. The description is "The strongbox of your mentor. It is probably locked and you are not supposed to open it anyways.". Before examining the small strongbox: if the small strongbox is open, say "The strongbox of your master that you opened, revealing a rare alchemy book. The book fit the box very well due to its small size, and probably had a reason for being in there." instead. The Excerpts of master-level alchemy book is inside the small strongbox. A Blisterwort is inside the Large Cauldron. Section - The Great Outdoors (easter egg) The The Great Outdoors is a room. It is south of the alchemy lab hallway. The description is "You leave the lab before finding your mentor to enjoy the peaceful serenity of a beautiful spring morning. The birds are chirping and singing and the grass in the lawns of the village is green as it moves caressed by the gentle breeze. The wonderful village unfolds before your eyes, as you see women putting their sheets to dry on the balconies of their thatched houses, built on the hilly landscape where kids can play tag with an unwilling grazing cattle. You sure love your village, but you should probably get back inside.".
