"Happy Cycling" by Lucas Eggers Include Rideable Vehicles by Graham Nelson. Section 1 - Rooms The Studio Lot is a room. "Scotland's overcast skies shade the parking lot in a bleary haze. Trees are losing their final leaves, failing in their last stand against the incoming winter. The Recording Studio sits at the far end of the lot, small yet foreboding. To the east is the M8 which stretches towards the center city." The Recording Studio is inside of the Studio Lot. "This is where the magic happens. [if the location of the synthesizer is not the Recording Studio]But something seems to be missing.[end if]" The keyboard stand is in The Recording Studio. "A keyboard stand sits [if the synthesizer is not in the Recording Studio]empty [end if]in the far corner of the room." Edinburgh is east of the Studio Lot. "Pedestrians milling about in harmony with the ordered stream of automobiles. Controlled chaos in all its beauty." Marcus's Living Room is a room. "You would think an atomic bomb has gone off inside this room, given the amount of clutter on the floor." Marcus's Front Door is a door. Marcus's Front Door is inside from Edinburgh and outside from Marcus's Living Room. Marcus's Front Door is open. Marcus's Front Door is not marked for listing. The Yamaha AN1x synthesizer is in Marcus's Living Room. "A Yamaha AN1x synthesizer sits on the floor, [if the player is in The Recording Studio]ready to be plugged in. [otherwise]unused and unloved[end if]." The description of the synthesizer is "[if the player is in Marcus's Living Room]So that's where he left the damn thing. Better get it back. [end if]This is a veritable work of art in itself - the sheer craftsmanship put into every LFO and every low cut filter..." Section 2 - Rules Definition: a direction (called thataway) is viable if the room thataway from the location is a room. After looking: say "You can go [list of viable directions] from here." The initial appearance of a door is usually "Nearby [an item described] leads [if the other side of the item described is visited][direction of the item described from the location] to [the other side][otherwise][direction of the item described from the location][end if]." Instead of putting the synthesizer on the keyboard stand: now the synthesizer is on the keyboard stand; now Marcus is in the Recording Studio; say "You lift the synthesizer up onto the stand. Marcus comes in, delighted that you found the instrument. He walks over to you." Section 3 - Marcus Instead of telling someone about something, try asking the noun about it. Instead of answering the noun that something, try asking the noun about it. Understand "talk to [someone]" as a mistake ("To start a conversation, try to ASK [the noun] ABOUT something or TELL [the noun] ABOUT something."). Marcus Eoin is a man in The Studio Lot. "Marcus Eoin stands here, nervously fidgeting. [line break]He's misplaced the synthesizer needed for today's sampling work." Instead of asking Marcus about something: if Marcus is in the Studio Lot, say "Marcus furrows his eyebrows and frowns. 'Hey, listen. I didn't mean to forget the synth back at my place. I know our studio time is precious, too, seriously. Could you please do me the favor of going back, getting it from the house, and putting it on the keyboard stand in the studio?'"; if Marcus is in the Recording Studio: say "Marcus says, 'Dude, I can't thank you enough. Let's get down to making some beats.' [line break]You pause for moment. 'Actually, I think that bike ride might have given me an idea or two.'"; end the story finally. [Instead of asking Marcus about "the bike": say "Marcus lets you know that the bike is trustworthy and quite fast. He just hopes you don't have too much trouble on the motorways."] Section 4 - Bike The red vintage bike is a rideable vehicle in the Studio Lot. Instead of going to Edinburgh from the Studio Lot when the player is not on the vintage bike: say "If you try to get to Edinburgh on foot, it'll take you hours and will definitely exhaust you for the day." After going to Edinburgh from the Studio Lot: say "You happily bike away. What a wonderful day for cycling: the cool breeze offsets your sweat, and the clouds stop you from overheating. Along the way, you get the strangest sensation of existing at many places in time at once... cars appear and disappear over the temporal and physical horizons, the road fizzles in and out of existence, church spires in the distance build upwards and crumble downwards simulatenously. You feel immovable, unchangeable, strong as the boulder that stands firm on the shore. Eventually, the world returns to a more stable state, and you arrive in....[line break]"; continue the action. Instead of going to the Studio Lot from the Edinburgh when the player is not on the vintage bike: say "Hope no one stole your bike. Otherwise, it's a long walk back, too long." After going to the Studio Lot from Edinburgh: say "The experience feels so different this time. With the keyboard tucked under your arm, your biking seems dampened, tarnished by the need to stay focused on holding the synth up. The music has betrayed your experience, so you try hard to recreate the first bike ride in your mind as you roll into the....[line break]"; continue the action. Instead of going inside when the player is on the vintage bike: say "How very rude it would be to enter a building while riding a bike!"
