When play begins: say "You wake up on the cold damp ground with no recollection of recent events." The Forest is a room. "You are in a thickly wooded forest. You see a muddy path to the East. There is also a grassy path to the North." Here is a Wooden Club. The description of the player is "You are wanderer searching for a way out of the valley." The block giving rule is not listed in the check giving it to rules. North of Forest is the Plains. Plains is a room. "You are in a flat expanse with a clear view of the mountains surrounding you. A rocky path leads East and a dusty path leads West." East of the Plains is the Mountain Range. The Mountain Range is a room. "You see a series of jagged, snow-covered peaks with passes for a brave mountaineer. You see a man-made path to the North." The Mountain Troll is a person in the Mountain Range. "An ugly troll blocks your path. There must be a way to get past it. Maybe you can find some clues." The description of the Mountain Troll is "An 8 foot tall ugly troll with a heavy stone club clutched in its right hand. It looks tired and grumpy as if it's having trouble lugging the stone club around." Instead of going to Altar: say "The Mountain Troll grunts and blocks your path with the stone club. Probably best not to argue." After giving Wooden Club to Mountain Troll: say "'HURMFGH!' The Mountain Troll drops the heavy stone club and lumbers away with the lighter wooden one. You proceed North."; now the player is in the Altar. North of the Mountain Range is the Altar. The Altar is a room. "You are in a large, cavernous room with intricate symbols and pictures engraved in the walls. You are bathed in a golden light coming from a tunnel going Northeast." Here is an Enchanted Staff of Mulakar. Instead of examining Enchanted Staff of Mulakar: say "A weathered staff with a blue gem secured in place at its end." Understand "staff" as enchanted staff of mulakar. Northeast of the Altar is the Dragon's Lair. The Dragon's Lair is a room. "You are in a large den that is the dwelling of the fearsome dragon, Alderoth." Understand "dragon" as Alderoth. Alderoth is a person in the Dragon's Lair. "The fearsome dragon Alderoth lies asleep surrounded by mountains of stolen gold and jewels. As you walk in, his sharp yellow eye slowly opens and locks on to you. He growls and prepares to defend his lair." The description of the dragon is "A fierce fire-breathing dragon who doesn't appreciate trespassing." The Dragon's dead body is a thing. Check attacking Alderoth: say "You cannot harm Alderoth without a weapon." instead. Attacking it with is an action applying to two things and requiring light. Understand "attack [something] with [something]" and "hit [something] with [something]" as attacking it with. Check attacking it with: if the second noun is not carried by the player: say "You're not holding [the second noun]." instead. Report attacking it with: say "Your attack fails to penetrate the thick dragon skin." Instead of attacking the Alderoth with the staff: let X be a random number from 1 to 4; if X is 1: say "You cast a water spell which is countered by Alderoth's fiery breath."; otherwise if X is 2: say "You cast a light spell which burns through the Dragon's hide."; remove Alderoth from play; now the dragon's dead body is in the location; say "You have successfully defeated Alderoth. The valley for Aldeiass is finally free from his tyranny. You are regarded as a hero and live the rest of your life with pride and riches."; end the game in victory; otherwise if X is 3: say "You cast a fire spell which has no effect. Alderoth turns on you and burns you to a crisp."; end the game in death; otherwise: say "You cast a shadow spell which curses Alderoth."; remove Alderoth from play; now the dragon's dead body is in the location; say "You have successfully defeated Alderoth. The valley for Aldeiass is finally free from his tyranny. You are regarded as a hero and live the rest of your life with pride and riches."; end the game in victory.
