When play begins: Say "You wake up in a space you don't recognize, with your memory apparently empty (You can interact with objects by typing EXAMINE. Type RESTART and then YES to restart the game) " The player is in the Unknown Space. The Unknown Space is a room. "You can't see much in here, except for occasional glowing spots and clouds of material." Gas is here. The description is "The gas surrounds you. It's almost all you can see. It is everywhere, containing you wholly. You are one with the gas. It appears that if you wait long enough, something may happen. (You can do this by typing WAIT)" Understand the command "wait" as something new. Understand "wait" as up. The Gaseous Space is a room. It is up from the Unknown Space. "You sat and you waited, and now you notice that the materials around you have become more compact, and are continuing to do so at an accelerated rate. You feel as though you begin to remember what you might become if you continue waiting." More Gas is here. The description is "The gas here is now moving towards a center point. It appears to be compressing." The Nebula is a room. It is up from The Gaseous Space. "After waiting long enough, you have become a Nebula, a gaseous cloud of atoms. You now have a choice to make. You realize that if you compress yourself, you might become something new (You can do this by typing COMPRESS), whereas if you wait longer, you may become larger." Understand "compress" as north The Small Protostar is a room. it is north of The Nebula. "You compress all of the matter you currently obtain around a single part of yourself, which gains a strong gravitational pull, bringing in more material until you eventually become a protostar. You are still surrounded by material, but its being brought towards you. After enough time passes, you will be able to exit this phase." The Large Nebula is a room. It is up from The Nebula. "You waited long enough to gather much more matter, enough for you to be sure that you've chosen a new path through your existence. With all of the gas and dust you've amassed, you are sure to become something large. Waiting now wouldn't do much, so your main option is to compress." The Large Protostar is a room. It is north of The Large Nebula. "You compress the massive amount of gas and dust you hold down at one point, eventually gaining a large gravitational pull. You have a now massive protostellar disk around your main protostar. After enough time passes, you will be able to exit this phase." The Very Small Protostar is a room. It is north of The Gaseous Space. "You attempted to compress yourself into a protostar, but you really didn't have all too much mass yet, so you ended up quite small. After enough time passes, you will be able to exit this phase." The Brown Dwarf is a room. It is up from The Very Small Protostar. "After enough time passed, you eventually became a star. Unfortunately for you, you were very small, and ended up as a brown dwarf, meaning this is where your journey ends. (Type RESTART to restart)" Understand the command "down" as something new. Understand the command "south" as something new. Understand "south" as north. Understand "down" as up. Understand the command "burn" as something new. Understand "burn" as east Understand the command "west" as something new Understand "west" as east The Low-Mass Star is a room. It is up from The Small Protostar. "After enough time as a protostar, you have become a star, albeit a low-mass one. You now cause nuclear fusion within your core by burning hydrogen. (You can do this by typing BURN)" The Red Giant is a room. It is east from The Low-Mass Star. "After burning enough hydrogen, your stores eventually ran out. You began to compress and heat up, to the point where you could now fuse helium. You began to expand until you finally ended up as a red giant. You feel you can still burn, although not for too much longer." The Planetary Nebula is a room. It is east from The Red Giant. "After enough time and enough burning, you've run out of your helium stores, meaning you have nothing left to burn. There is no way for you to resist the force of gravity now. You collapse, shedding your outer layers, and they become a planetary nebula" Very Hot Gas is here. The description is "There is incredibly hot material all around now, moving away from a center point. If you wait long enough, it will eventually leave." The White Dwarf is a room. It is up from The Planetary Nebula. "After enough time, the point at the center of the nebula and the core of the red dwarf before it ejected its outermost layer, or the cause of the nova and what remains after, has been revealed. A brilliantly white, incredibly hot ball of plasma. Seeing as you are no longer burning anything to keep yourself emitting light, after enough waiting, you will go out." The Black Dwarf is a room. It is up from The White Dwarf. "After billions of years, you eventually cooled fully and ended up as a black dwarf, a ball emitting no light, a dead white dwarf. There is nothing more for you to do here, meaning this is where your journey ends. (Type RESTART to restart. HINT: You could be in a binary star system with a white dwarf during the red giant phase. Type BE ABSORBED during the red giant phase to see that branch of this path)." Understand "be absorbed" as northeast The Binary White Dwarf is a room. It is northeast from the red giant. "You ended up in a binary star system with a white dwarf, which is slowly absorbing your mass. (Are you above or below 1.4 solar masses? Type ABOVE if above, type BELOW if not)." Understand "above" as northwest Understand "below" as southeast Understand "find new star" as northwest The Type Ia Supernova is a room. It is northwest of The Binary White Dwarf. "Over time, the white dwarf in your system slowly absorbs the red giant, until finally reaching a critical mass, and the white dwarf got large enough to reactivate fusion. However, because white dwarfs are unable to control temperature well, when fusion begins, a massive amount of energy is created, which ends up creating enough energy to split its own molecules. The white dwarf explodes in a blinding light, destroying the initial star, but not its companion. There is nothing more for you to do here, meaning this is where your journey ends. (Type RESTART to restart)" The Nova is a room. It is southeast of The Binary White Dwarf and down from The White Dwarf. "Over time, the white dwarf in your system slowly absorbs the red giant, although it's never quite able to reach the Chandrasekhar limit. Instead, it becomes a nova, a sort of disk around a white dwarf, shining brightly for anywhere between a week to several months. All that can really happen now is for you to either wait or somehow happen upon a new star. (You can do this by typing FIND NEW STAR)" The Massive Star is a room. It is up from The Large Protostar. "After enough time as a protostar, you have become a massive star, larger than eight solar masses. You now cause nuclear fusion within your core by burning hydrogen. (You can do this by typing BURN)" The Red Supergiant is a room. It is east from The Massive Star. "After burning enough hydrogen, your stores eventually ran out. You began to compress and heat up, to the point where you could now fuse helium, then carbon, then magnesium, oxygen, silicon, and then finally iron, with some occasional nickel. Through all of this you've been in a new, much larger, expanded form. A red supergiant. You feel you can still burn, although not for too much longer." The Oh No is a room. It is east from The Red Supergiant. "After reaching iron (with some amounts of nickel) fusion, the required heat to fuse new atom types is higher than what you can consistently produce, so you can't make large amounts of anything else. This means that there is now no internal force pushing against gravity, meaning your core is now slowly compacting." The Type II Supernova is a room. It is up from The Oh No. "After your core was compacted enough to reach 1.4 solar masses, your core implodes. Now there is nothing keeping your outer layers from crashing inwards at 6.9*10^7 m/s (six point nine times ten to the seventh, or 69,000,000, meters per second), or roughly 23% the speed of light. This causes the inner core of the store to reach around 100 billion kelvin (1*10^11, or 100,000,000,000), creating around 10^46, or 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, also known as ten quattuordecillion, joules of energy, which through certain properties, is all sent back outward, essentially bounced back into space. This causes a massive supernova, shooting matter across space and fusing elements heavier than iron, if only very briefly. Now you can only wait to see the aftermath." The Supernova Remnant is a room. It is up from the Type II Supernova. "In the wake of the massive explosion of a red supergiant, a supernova remnant can be found. There is matter surrounding the initial point of explosion, but it's speeding away rapidly. There is more, though. Something at the center. (The output of a large supernova changes depending on the mass of the red supergiant, with the difference stemming from whether the star, at the time of the explosion, is above or below 40 solar masses. Type ABOVE if above, type BELOW if not.)" The Neutron Star is a room. It is southeast from The Supernova Remnant. "At the center of the supernova lies a neutron star, a ball made entirely of neutrons, not able to contain almost any protons or electrons, simply billions and billions and billions of neutrons. Over time, the star will eventually cool, stop producing heat and die. There is also the chance to become a pulsar, a rapidly spinning neutron star shooting out electromagnetic waves, functioning similarly to a superfast space lighthouse, although you didn't happen to end up like that. There is nothing more for you to do here, meaning this is where your journey ends. (Type RESTART to restart)" The Black Hole is a room. It is northwest from The Supernova Remnant. "At the center of the supernova lies a neutron star, a ball made entirely of neutrons, not able to contain almost any protons or electrons, simply billions and billions and billions of neutrons. For a brief moment. Then the immense force of gravity, from the mass of the star, is too much for the ball of neutrons to handle. the star collapses under its own weight, shrinking down into a single point, unfathomably dense, with a gravity so strong not even light can escape. Black holes are also able to emit electromagnetic waves through superheating nearby matter through its immense gravity. There is nothing more for you to do here, meaning this is where your journey ends. (Type RESTART to restart)" The display banner rule is not listed in the startup rulebook.
