"The Lounge (work in progress)" by Katherine The story headline is "A ponderous and strange predicament" Section 1 - Player A body part is a kind of thing. Some hair is a kind of body part. Understand "hair" or "hairdo" or "curls" as hair. One hair is part of every person. A nose is a kind of body part. Understand "nose" as nose. One nose is part of every person. Some eyes are a kind of body part. Understand "eye" or "eyes" or "eyelashes" as eyes. Eyes is part of every person. A mouth is a kind of body part. One mouth is part of every person. Understand "mouth" or "lips" as a mouth. Understand "look [direction]" as facing. Facing is an action applying to one visible thing. The description of the player is "You raise your hands and cry to your ancestors." Understand "kiss [something]" as kissing. The block kissing rule is not listed in any rulebook. Dancing is an action applying to one thing. Understand "dance", "dance to music" and "dance with [something]" as dancing. Rule for supplying a missing noun while dancing: change the noun to the player. Check dancing: If the noun is the player and someone who is not the player is in the location, say "You'd make a fool of yourself." instead; if the noun is the player, say "You take a few steps to the tune you hear only in your head." instead; if the noun is not a person, say "You can't dance with inanimate objects!" instead; say "[The noun] doesn't seem to be in the mood for dancing." Instead of dancing: say "You've learned your lesson."; end the game in victory; Section 2 - The Lounge The Lounge is a room. "The lounge is a small room. There is one arched doorway to the east. There is a bean bag, a tall lamp, and a bookshelf." Some walls are scenery in the lounge. The description is "The walls are a dark shade of blue. Upon closer inspection, there are tiny veins of gold running through the stone. They are slabs of lapis lazuli." Understand "wall" as the walls. The ceiling is a backdrop. "The ceiling is desperately normal." The ceiling is in the lounge and quiet room. Instead of facing up: say "The ceiling is desperately normal." Instead of facing down: say "The floor holds the memory of a thousand little steps, like dried tears on a hippo's cheek.". The floor is a backdrop. "The floor holds the memory of a thousand little steps, like dried tears on a hippo's cheek." The floor is in the lounge and quiet room. Understand "ground" as the floor. The printed name of the Lounge is "The Lounge". Understand "kick [something]", "pound [something]", "punch [something]" and "maul [something]" as attacking. Understand "lick [thing]", "nibble [thing]", "bite [thing]" as tasting. Instead of attacking the walls: say "The wall shows no signs of pain or distress from your attack. You are no match for their stoic attitude." Instead of eating [something]: say "Oh, you." The lamp is a thing. The lamp is in the lounge. The description is "The lamp towers tall and proud over you. It has a thin bronze stalk with a translucent bowl on top that holds the light bulb." Instead of taking the lamp: say "There is so much more to life than material possession." Instead of attacking the lamp: say "There are other ways to prove your manhood." instead of tasting the lamp: say "The cold metal is a shock on your tongue." after touching lamp: say "The lamp ignores your touch." instead of smelling the lamp: say "You hope to catch a whiff of something exotic like burnt vanilla or the tang of hibiscus. Your nose is greeted with nothing but bitter disappointment." The bean bag is a thing in the lounge. The description is "The leather bean bag is large and floppy. You feel dirty if you gaze at it for too long." Understand "bag" and "beanbag" and "bean-bag" as the bean bag. Instead of attacking the bean bag: say "Ha. Take that, dirty beanbag." instead of tasting the bean bag: say "You can't tell whether it is merely cold or slimy. The taste is a cross between salty and hate. You have done some regrettable things in your life. This may rank as one of the worst." after touching bean bag: say "You shiver uncontrollably. You cannot tell whether you are attracted or repulsed by its slippery touch." instead of smelling the bean bag: say "If purgatory indeed exists, it would smell like this bean bag." The bookshelf is a supporter in the Lounge. The description is "The bookshelf sits fat and defiant in the corner of the room." Understand "shelf" and "book shelf" as the bookshelf. Instead of attacking the bookshelf: say "The bookshelf defies your attempts to injure it." instead tasting the bookshelf: say "There is a tinge of fear as you lower to your mouth to the wooden structure. What if you get a splinter in your tongue? Your tongue licks the bookshelf and all you end up with is a mouth full of dust." after touching bookshelf: say "It is not as smooth as it appears, like touching the unshaven thigh of an old man." instead of smelling the bookshelf: say "The smell is beyond words. Your nose will never be the same." Instead of tasting floor: say "Why am I doing this? What happened to me to bring me to the state I'm in today?" Instead of tasting ceiling: say "You imagine it is a complex play between oak and blueberry." Section 3 - The Quiet Room The prince is a person. The prince is male. The Quiet Room is east of the Lounge. "The room is silent as the grave. The only light is a faint glow from the lounge. There are shadows you can make out that look like furniture." Every turn when the player is in the quiet room: say "Something flitters in the darkness." The light-switch is a device in the quiet room. The light-switch is scenery. Understand "light" and "switch" as the light-switch. Understand "flip [something switched off]" as switching on. Understand "flip [something switched on]" as switching off. Understand "flip [something]" as switching on. Every turn while in the quiet room: end the game in victory;
