"Roman Colosseum" by "Rahel Sewell" The Arena is south of the North Wall and below the Royal Box. “[if the Arena is unvisited]You open your eyes to find that you are standing in the middle of the old, empty Roman Colosseum. Wait. No. The recently built Roman Colosseum, you correct yourself, seeing as it is strangely intact. You experimentally scuff your shoes in the sand, causing little clouds to rise into the gray winter air. How did you get here? You were doing your history homework just a moment ago, then there was that strange whirring noise, and you found yourself here. Looking around confusedly, you see the steps looming gracefully around you. Far up, almost above you, is a huge throne- empty. To the north are huge double doors.[end if][if the Arena is visited]Far up, almost above you, is a huge throne- empty. To the north are huge double doors.†The North Wall is a room. It is north of the Arena. "Before you stretches two huge double doors." The double doors is a door. It is north of the North Wall and south of the lions. It is closed and openable. "The double doors are wooden and studded. A strange growling sound can be heard." Instead of opening the double doors: say "You open the door and spy 6 glowing deadlights. Before you can scream, you are accosted by 3 lions."; end the game in death. The Royal Box is a room. “[if the Royal Box is unvisited]You make your way across the Arena. The throne looks a far way off, but somehow you travel quite quickly. You climb up the stairs that suddenly appear for you, step over the parapet, and turn around to see that the stairs have vanished. You have a nice view of the Arena. Turning around, you are assailed by a large stone Throne. You take a moment to reflect on how it must hurt to sit on it all day, and realize that that may be the reason for the overall crankiness of medieval rulers.[end if][if the Royal Box is visited]You climb up the stairs that appear automatically and find yourself in front of the Throne. You have a terrific view of the Arena from here.[end if]†The Throne is in the Royal Box. “The stone Throne is huge and cold to the touch. Just as you are about to turn away, something shiny catches your eye. Looking closer, you see that there is a shiny metal plate affixed to the side of the Throne.†It is fixed in place. The plate is a container in the Royal Box. It is closed, openable, fixed in place, locked, and lockable. "The plate is made of bronze and cold to the touch. Looking closer, you can see that there are scrapes around it, suggesting that it can be pried open with a flat tool." The chest is a container in the Arena. It is closed, openable, and fixed in place. The spear is in the chest. It unlocks the plate. The portal is in the plate. The description of the portal is "When you open the plate, your eyes behold a small swirling purple energy portal. It pulses strangely and you have a strange inclination to take it up in your hands." Instead of taking the portal: say "When you pick up the portal, a strange whirring is heard. When you open your eyes, you find that you are back at your desk, your history homework in front of you. When you look closer, you find that the 2 page report you were supposed to write on the Roman Colosseum is written and signed by you."; end the game in victory.
