When play begins: say "You wake up in a cave.  You have no memory of how you got here. Voices constantly murmur in your head. You have to escape."
Central Cave is a room. "You are in a cold, damp cave. Stalagmites and stalagtites cover the ceiling and walls. Several small puddles lie in the ground. The cave is just small enough to give you serious claustrophobia. The only obvious means of escape is an old, termite-eaten wooden door to the east. [If down key is handled]A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER HAS APPEARED IN THE CENTER OF THE CAVE. THE PAPER READS, 'UNSCRAMBLE ME. UOY TSUM OG NWOD.'"
The Right Chair is here. "A wooden chair sits in the middle of the room. The chair is pointing to the right. It's significance is unknown to you at this time."
The rusty key is here.  "There is a small, rusty key nearby."
The wooden door is east of Central Cave. The wooden door is a door. "." East of it is Eastern Cave. The wooden door is lockable and locked. The rusty key unlocks the wooden door.
[If Down key is handled] The Hidden Panel is below the Central Cave. The Hidden Panel is a Door. "You can hear sounds coming from somewhere. You don't know where, but you can tell that they are not coming from the wooden door to the east. There must be another door or opening somewhere in this room."  The hidden panel is locked. The Down Key unlocks the Hidden Panel.  Through the Hidden Panel is Southern Jail Cell. 
Eastern Cave is a room. "You enter another cavern, this one no less unpleasant than the last. The door you came through lies to the west." The ceramic bowl is in the Eastern cave. "A small ceramic bowl lies in the middle. Inside the bowl is a key, with an arrow pointing down." The Ceramic bowl is a container. The ceramic bowl is fixed in place. The Down Key is in the Ceramic bowl. 
Through the Hidden Panel is Southern Jail Cell. Southern Jail Cell is a room. "You slide the panel to the left and jump inside. You are now in a small, dimly lit jail cell. It is about 4 by 5 feet in length, and to the West, East, and South there is nothing but metal wall. To the North, there are eight Iron Bars, each one about 1 inch in diameter. If you had a tool, you think you could probably bend them. The ground is tiled, a black and white marble pattern similar to that of a chess board." 
The Loose Tile is here. "You can barely make out a tile in the floor that seems to be loose. Something juts out of the Loose Tile. If you Opened the Loose Tile, you could probably get it out." The loose tile is a container. The loose tile is fixed in place. The loose tile is closed. The loose tile is openable. 
The Crowbar is in the loose tile.
After taking crowbar: say "Taken. You pry away the iron bars north of the jail cell, and after much exertion on your part, you make a hole large enough for you to fit through. You may now go North."
Iron Bars is north of jail. "." Iron bars is a door. Iron Bars is locked. [If crowbar is handled] Iron bars is open.
Northern Jail Cell is a room. "The room smells of smoke. In the center of the jail cell is a shadow. The shadow has rusting metal chains around it's many writhing black tentacles. It makes no noise until you approach it." Northern Jail Cell is north of Iron Bars. 

??? is a thing. ??? is in Northern Jail Cell. "The shadow speaks. 'I HAVE SUMMONED YOU HERE TO TAKE MY PLACE FOR ALL ETERNITY. I HAVE BEEN IMPRISONED HERE FOR CENTURIES, CHAINED UNTIL I COULD FIND A SUITABLE CANDIDATE. ONE WHO'S SOUL WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE PAIN. I HAVE BEFORE ME TWO TABLETS. ONE OF THEM, WHEN TOUCHED, LEAD TO YOUR IMPRISONMENT AND MY FREEDOM. THE OTHER LEADS TO YOUR ESCAPE. CHOOSE WISELY. THOUGH MY CAPTOR HAS GIVEN ME A CHANCE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT, YOU WILL NOT HAVE THAT LUXURY.'"
Left Tablet is a thing in Northern Jail Cell. "To the left of the shadow, there is a tablet with the word 'left tablet' engraved on it."
Right Tablet is a thing in Northern Jail Cell. "To the right of the shadow, there is a tablet with the word 'right tablet' engraved on it."
After taking left tablet: say "Your entire being turns pitch black. You try to touch something, to feel anything, but you can not. The shadow being that was once in the chains turns into an octopus, and flies away. You take its place."; end the game in death.
After taking right tablet: say "The shadow cries in desperation. You feel yourself being lifted up, through the jail ceiling, through the cave, up to the surface. You are free."; end the story saying "You have won. Congratulations."
