"Your Government Needs You" by Kerry Bee When play begins: say "Transplant Status: Normal." The monitor is a wearable object. The player wears the monitor. The description of the monitor is "A generous gift from the Organization to help you manage your mandatory organ transplant. It should keep you from dying." The transplant is an object. The player carries the transplant. The description of the transplant is "You can't see it, but you're always aware of it. The monitor strapped to your wrist probably has a lot to do with that." After examining the transplant for the first time, say "You were given your transplant the day the goverment decided it need you for the Organization. You've heard rumors that if you leave Housing without permission or ignore a directive, they remotely damage your plant. And then you die." Your cell is a room. "[if unvisited] Your eyes open at 4:00 in the morning when the lights automatically cut on. The unrelieved white of the room makes you squint. You've lived in this room since you were sixteen, but it hasn't changed much. [paragraph break] [end if]Not exactly home sweet home." The bed, the desk, a chair, the mirror, the wardrobe, and the tiny window are in your cell. The desk is a supporter. The description of the desk is "[if unvisited] You like to sit and look at the pictures you've stuck to the wall, pictures from home stuffed hurriedly into your suitcase, while the Organization members weren't looking. [paragraph break][end if] The desk itself is bland and white, but the drawer's good for storage. " The drawer is part of the desk. The drawer is an openable closed container. The ID card is in the drawer. The description of the ID card is "Your picture looks stupid, but they won't let you retake it. Unfortunately, you also need it for everything." The knife is in the drawer. The description of the knife is "Government issue. It's sharp enough for surgery, and you keep it that way." The compass is in the drawer. The screwdriver is in the drawer. The description of the screwdriver is "Comes in handy when something goes wrong in your residence, which is often." The pen is in the drawer. The description of the pen is "You get a delivery of supplies every two months. This is the last one left until next month. Better make it last." The book is on the desk. The description of the book is "It's an old copy of [italic type]Anthem[roman type] you got from your older brother right before you had to leave home, one of the few things you were allowed to take with you." Instead of going south when ID card is not handled: say "Do you have everything?" The chair is an enterable supporter. The chair is portable. The description of the chair is "Also hard and uncomfortable. They clearly spared no expense on this room." The bed is an enterable supporter. The description of the bed is "You would sleep on the floor instead of this rock mattress, but sometimes there are roaches." The mirror is fixed in place. The description of the mirror is "Bold white text covers one half of the mirror, it reads: 'YOUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS YOU.' It shouts at you every day when you're getting ready." Instead of examining the player: say "It's hard to see yourself through all the text, but you look good enough." Test me with "examine me". The wardrobe is an enterable container. The wardrobe is fixed in place. The description of the wardrobe is "Organization issue. You are no longer allowed civilian clothes, so it's full of identical sets of your grey uniform." Rule for printing room description details of the wardrobe: stop. The uniform is in the wardrobe. The uniform is wearable. The description of the uniform is "It's grey and formless and you've got a dozen of them. You would file a complaint but no one cares what you think." The description of the tiny window is "If you stand on your chair you can see a patch of grass, but that's it. From anywhere else it just shows a hint of cloud." Your bathroom is north of your cell. The description of the bathroom is "You can stand in it, barely. The tile has gotten a bit grimy since no one comes to clean anymore. They used to. You would, but cleaning supplies aren't included in your bimonthly deliveries." The small shower, the toilet, the stained sink, and the cracked mirror are in your bathroom. Before listing nondescript items while in your bathroom: if the small shower is marked for listing: now the small shower is not marked for listing; if the stained sink is marked for listing: now the stained sink is not marked for listing; if the cracked mirror is marked for listing: now the cracked mirror is not marked for listing; if the toilet is marked for listing: now the toilet is not marked for listing. The description of the stained sink is "This was stained even when the cleaning crew still visited. You think it might be blood, so you try not to look too closely." The white door is a door. The description of the white door is "There is no lock, but you've taken to blocking the door with the chair whenever you want privacy. It's pretty much the same as locking it." The description of the Mess is "There's the three identical tables and benches for the other residents you rarely see. (They must all be on different schedules. Though, honestly, you could be alone here for all you know.) [paragraph break]A conveyor belt that disappears into the kitchen, which has no other entrance. on your side [paragraph break]Plus the sterilizer, where you are supposed to leave all your dishes. [paragraph break]Not to mention the harsh flourescents! [paragraph break]Definitely your favorite room." The three tables, the conveyor belt, and the sterilizer are in the mess.
