"Questor's Quest" by Adam Ghozeil Use American dialect and the serial comma and no scoring. Include Rideable Vehicles by Graham Nelson. Section 1 - The Basics The City is a room. "You are in the city. Your castle is to the north. The river is to the south. There are hills to the west, and farms to the east." The crowd is a thing. "A crowd of people has gathered to ask for your help." The crowd is a man. The crowd is in the city. The crowd is fixed in place. The description of the crowd is "A crowd of people has gathered to ask for your help." understand "off" as dismounting Every turn: If the player can see the crowd: If the player has the blue bird: Say "You have brought the blue bird of happiness back to your people. You are a hero!"; End the game in victory; Otherwise: Say "The crowd pleads with you to bring back the blue bird of happiness." Instead of asking the crowd about something: Say "The crowd explains that a wizard from distant lands has stolen the blue bird of happiness. Now they are all sad." Instead of telling the crowd about something: Say "The crowd only want you to go get the bird from the wizard." Your horse is a rideable animal. The description of your horse is "Your beautiful brown horse. He can go almost anywhere. You may ride him by typing 'ride horse'. You may get off by typing 'dismount'." Your horse is in the city. The Castle is a room. "You are in the courtyard of your castle. The exit is to the south." The castle is north of the city. The Riverbank is a room. "You are at the edge of a fast river. There are slower spots where fish like to hide. The city is to the north. To the east you can see a bridge over the river." The riverbank is south of the city. The river is in the riverbank. The river is scenery. The description of the river is "The river is fast, but near the shore are slow spots where fish like to hide." Fishing in is an action applying to one visible thing. Understand "fish in [something]" as fishing in. Check fishing in: Say "I don't see how to fish in [the noun]." instead. Report fishing in: say "You fish in [the noun]." Instead of fishing in the river: If the player has the fishing pole: If the player has the worm chunk: Say "You bait the fishing pole with your worm chunk. After a while, you catch two silvery fish."; Now the player has a pair of fish; Remove the worm chunk from play; otherwise: Say "You have a fishing pole, but nothing to bait it with."; otherwise: If the player has the worm chunk: Say "You have some bait, but you don't have a fishing pole."; otherwise: Say "With your bare hands? I don't think that will work." The remaining fish is a thing. The description of the remaining fish is "A big, silvery fish. Should taste good." The pair of fish is a thing. Instead of taking the birds: Say "You cannot reach them." The Deep woods is a room. "The forest here is very thick and dark. Traveling is difficult. To the west, the forest is thinner. To the east, thick bushes block your way." The deep woods is east of the forest. The bushes are an object. The bushes are scenery. The bushes are in the deep woods. The description of the bushes is "Thick, thorny bushes block your way to the east. Maybe you could cut them down." before going east from the deep woods: if the bushes are in the deep woods: Say "The bushes completely block your way." instead; Cutting it with is an action applying to one visible thing and one carried thing. Understand "cut [something] with [something]" as cutting it with. Check cutting it with: Say "I don't see how to cut [the noun] with [the second noun]." instead. It looks like you can go right in." Instead of entering the shack: If the player is carried by your horse: say "You can't ride your horse into the shack. That would be rude!"; Otherwise: Now the player is in the hut. The Hut is a room. "You are inside a small, one-room shack. The clearing is outside." The hut is inside of the clearing. Instead of going to the hut by horse: say "You can't ride your horse into the shack. That would be rude!" The fishing pole is a thing. The fishing pole is in the hut. The description of the fishing pole is "A good, sturdy fishing pole. It has been a long time since you last went fishing by the river." The Mountains is a room. "You are in the mountains. There are hills to the east. You can see the entrance to a cave here." The mountains is west of the hills. The cave is a container. The cave is enterable scenery. The cave is in the mountains. The description of the cave is "You can see the entrance of a cave here." Instead of entering the cave: If the player is carried by your horse: say "You can't ride your horse into the cave. "You have come to a strange land, far from home. The entrance to a tall, magical tower is here. Maybe a wizard lives there. The road home is to the north." The Distant land is south of the road. Instead of going from the road to the Distant land when the player is not carried by the horse: say "This is a very long road. You should go by horse." Instead of going from the Distant land to the road when the player is not carried by the horse: say "This is a very long road. You should go by horse." The tower is a container. The tower is enterable scenery. The description of the tower is "Some stone steps lead up to the entrance to a weird-looking tower." The tower is in the Distant land. Instead of entering the tower: If the player is carried by your horse: say "You can't ride your horse into the tower. He can't climb stairs."; Otherwise: Now the player is in the foyer. The Foyer is a room. "You are at the ground level of the magical tower. The distant land is outside. There are stairs leading up and down." The Foyer is inside of the Distant land. Instead of going to the Foyer by horse: say "You can't ride your horse into the tower. He can't climb stairs." The Upstairs is a room. "You are upstairs in the magical tower. There are stairs leading up and down." The upstairs is up from the foyer. The magic jar is a thing. The magic jar is in upstairs. The description of the magic jar is "A magical jar that glows with a bright inner light." The magic jar is lit. The Roof is a room. "You are on the roof of the magical tower. There are stairs leading down." The roof is up from upstairs. The wizard is in the roof. "The wizard who owns the tower is sitting here in a rocking chair." The wizard is a man. The description of the wizard is "An old man in black robes. He looks a little crazy. Maybe you should ask him about the bird." The wizard is carrying the blue bird. The blue bird is a thing. The description of the blue bird is "It's the blue bird of happiness. When you bring it back to the city, everyone will be so happy." Instead of asking the wizard about something: Say "The wizard says 'I thought this bird would make me happy, but it doesn't. All I really want is some pickled fish.'" Instead of telling the wizard about something: Say "The wizard says 'I would trade the bird for a pickled fish in an instant.'" instead of giving pickle bottle to the wizard: Say "You give the bottle of pickled fish to the wizard. He happily hands you the blue bird."; Now the player has the blue bird; Remove the pickle bottle from play; Now the description of the wizard is "An old man in black robes. He looks a little crazy." The Basement is a dark room. "You are in the basement of the magical tower. There are stairs leading up." The basement is down from the foyer. The vinegar bottle is a closed openable container. The bottle is in the basement. The description of the bottle is "A large bottle half full of vinegar." After closing the vinegar bottle: If the remaining fish is inside the vinegar bottle: Say "You close up the bottle with the fish in it. It must be magic vinegar, because the fish pickles instantly."; Remove the vinegar bottle from play; Remove the remaining fish from play; Now the player has the pickle bottle. The pickle bottle is a thing. The description of the pickle bottle is "A large bottle with a pickled fish in it."
