The Observatory is a room. "Welcome to the observatory, where people get grades. People don't want bad grades. People are good." A report card is in The Observatory. The description of the report card is "It says 'F minus' and has scrawled on it multiple notes of awful behavior on the behalf of its recipient." The report card repository is a room. The report card repository is south of the observatory. A portal is in the observatory. The portal is a closed locked door. The portal is north of the observatory and south of the report card repository. The portal gem unlocks portal. Portal gem is in observatory. The report card repository is a room. The description of the portal is "You don't expect much when you look at the portal, and you're correct. Not much can be gleaned from examining the distorted surface of the strange object. In fact, this is much like staring at a door and trying to get more information about its contents. To extend this line of reasoning, imagine this door has no label. There is absolutely no point in examining this portal, but curiously, you're drawn to it. Most experienced game players believe that in these games, there is sense in looking at everything, especially things that stand out like portals with report cards coming out of them, but in fact, there was no markings or any sort of information coming from this portal. Is that frustrating to you? Do you feel upset? On another note, this portal seems like it's missing something.. There's an indentation in the wall above it shaped like an oval. Something must go here." Penguin is a man in the observatory. "The penguin standing here seems rather anxious and doesn't know how to approach you. He is standing near the portal from which report cards spew." Description of penguin is "He looks away with a nervous, quiet 'squaaawk.' The penguin appears to be an emperor penguin. He wears a stylish cap, astounding you with his posh, refined sense in contemporary fashion." Instead of telling the penguin about something: say "He doesn't understand you. There's a language barrier. It would seem that you don't speak penguin and he doesn't speak English, which is unfortunate, but you cannot complain." Instead of asking the penguin about something: say "He glances to the portal and back at you with blank eyes... I'm not totally sure what you expected, but he certainly doesn't know." Penguin wears a plaid hat. Instead of taking hat: say "Why, I thought you were an odd one, but I never thought you a thief! No! I refuse to help you steal this poor penguin's fashionable hat." Penguin carries a spy glass. The note is an object in the report card repository. "Ah! There's a note hiding here!" Description of note is "It says here that there is a kid named Gabriel Eugene Martin, and he has something to say. 'Hello, fellow student. I see you made it past the guardian penguin and the portal gem. Congratulations. By the way, if you speak French to the penguin, he'll understand you. Anyways! I'm here to persuade you to give me a fairly good grade. I've probably already shown you a powerpoint (unless my calculations aren't correct), but this should fully win you over. Along with the powerpoint, I'll argue that my attempts to improve are even more important. I'd love to tell you that I was perfect from the get-go, but in reality, that's the opposite of the truth, and I was looking to improve from the beginning. I believe that what I've learned, rather than my actual abilities in speech to begin with, are important in determining my grade. Please don't let my report card come as another disappointment out of the report card portal! I'll end this nightmare with a passing grade, and the penguin and portal will be despawned. Hurry! There's not much time!" After examining note: say "That's all you needed to see."; award 100 points. Every turn: if score is 100 begin; say "You've won! Congratulations!"; end the game in victory; end if.
