"The Anniversary" by Chelsea Tufarolo

When play begins: say "When I imagined Josh and Iâ€™s anniversary together I had pictured it much differently. If I had had it my way, it wouldnâ€™t have been spent on a dusty floor. We slept in what had once been the gymnasium, now it is just another piece of the skeleton the was once the beloved Spring Elementary School.
 

	The school had been abandoned in the nineties following a series of rumors that forced the staff to relocate to a safer location downtown. The building is old, and although I haven't been here in at least fiften years, everything is still familiar to me. I went to school here before it was shut down and it was here in this gym that Josh and I met for the first time. When Josh heard about the demolition plans, he insisted we spend one last night here, like we used to do as teenagers, and although I was opposed to the idea, I still decided to come along. Our plan was to spend the night and then wake up early and sneak out before the construction workers arrived. 
	
	
	But when I woke up this morning he was gone." 



The Gym is a room.
 "[if the Gym is unvisited]As you lay there the waxed floor is cool against your back. Looking up at the ceiling you noticed the cobwebs covering the exposed support beams and the steel metal cages that once served to protect the light fixtures from flyaway dodge balls. This is where it all began.

All evidence from last night is missing. Your purse, all well as your husband, are no where to be found. You've been waiting for a while now and decide to give up on Josh returning to the gym. Annoyed, you sit up and prepare to leave. But then a small key catches your key.[end if][if Gym is visited]You are in the Gym.[end if]"

The small key is in the Gym. The small key unlocks metal door.

The metal door is a closed door. It is lockable and locked. The metal door is north of the Gym and south of the Athletic Closet. The description of the metal door is "It's the door to the old Athletic Closet. I wonder if this is what the key unlocks?"

The Athletic Closet is north of the metal door.

The bin is in the athletic closet. The bin is a closed openable container. Inside the bin is the paper. After examining the paper:
   change the printed name to "Clue 1". The description of the paper is "It is a small,  green piece of paper. The paper reads: This is your first clue. Go to the place where I spilled paint on your dress"


West Hallway is south of the Gym.
 "[if the West Hallway is unvisited]You enter the West Hallway and try to remember where the Art Classroom is.[end if][if West Hallway is visited]You are in the West Hallway leading to the Gym to the north, the Cafeteria to the south and the Main Office to the east.[end if]"



Cafeteria is south of West Hallway.
 "[if the Cafeteria is unvisited]You are in the Cafeteria. I remember the time Josh started a food fight here. [end if][if Cafeteria is visited]You are in the Cafeteria. The West Hallway is north of here.[end if]."
There is small paper in the Cafeteria. After examining the small paper:
   change the printed name to "Clue 3". The description of the small paper is "It is another small,  green piece of paper. The paper reads: This is your third clue. Meet me on the playground."

There is a dirty book in the Main Lobby. The description of the dirty book is "You wonder what this book is doing here and if you should return it to the Library."



Main Lobby is east of the Gym.
 "[if the Main Lobby is unvisited]You are in the Main Lobby.[end if][if Main Lobby is visited]You are in the Main Lobby.[end if]"



North Hallway is north of the Main Lobby.
 "[if the North Hallway is unvisited]You are in the North Hallway.[end if][if North Hallway is visited]You are in the North Hallway leading to the Music Classroom to the north, the Main Lobby to the south and the Art Classroom to the east.[end if]"



Art Classroom is east of North Hallway.
 "[if the Art Classroom is unvisited]You enter the Art Classroom and immediately see a variety of assorted colored paper scattered across the floor. The paper looks relatively new and out of place. You wonder if Josh left these here.[end if][if Art Classroom is visited]You are in the Art Classroom. The Main Lobby is west of here.[end if]"

There is red paper in the Art Classroom. The description of the red paper is "It is small,  red piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is orange paper in the Art Classroom. The description of the orange paper is "It is small,  orange piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is yellow paper in the Art Classroom. The description of the yellow paper is "It is small,  yellow piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is green paper in the Art Classroom. After examining the green paper:
   change the printed name to "Clue 2". The description of the green paper is "It is another small,  green piece of paper. 

The paper reads: This is your second clue. Go to the place where I started the food fight."
There is blue paper in the Art Classroom. The description of the bue paper is "It is small,  blue piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is indigo paper in the Art Classroom. The description of the indigo paper is "It is small,  indigo piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is violet paper in the Art Classroom.The description of the violet paper is "It is small,  violet piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is brown paper in the Art Classroom.The description of the brown paper is "It is small,  brown piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is black paper in the Art Classroom.The description of the black paper is "It is small,  black piece of paper with nothing written on it."
There is gray paper in the Art Classroom.The description of the gray paper is "It is small,  gray piece of paper with nothing written on it."



Music Classroom is north of North Hallway.
 "[if the Music Classroom is unvisited]You are in the Music Classroom.[end if][if Music Classroom is visited]You are in the Music Classroom.[end if]"



Main Office is south of the Main Lobby and east of the West Hallway.
 "[if the Main Office is unvisited]You are in the Main Office.[end if][if Main Office is visited]You are in the Main Office. The Lobby is north of here, the West Hallway is west of here and the East Hallway is east of here. Go south to exit the school.[end if]"

The wooden door is a closed, locked door. It is scenery. The wooden door is south of the Main Office and north of the School Yard. The description of the wooden door is "The door has been locked." The metal key unlocks the wooden door.


Library is north of the East Hallway and east of Main Lobby.
 "[if the Library is unvisited]You are in the Library. There is only one shelf, slightly broken shelf left in here.[end if][if Library is visited]You are in the Library.[end if]"

The bookshelf is in the Library. The description of the bookshelf is "Upon further examination, you notice that there seems to be a small, press-able panel on the side of the statue." It is fixed in place.

The floor is a locked door. Floor is below Library and above the Secret Room. It is scenery.

Instead of closing the floor:
	say "You can't close the floor. That doesn't make any sense."

The panel is a part of the bookshelf. The description of the panel is "A small panel sticking out of the side of the bookshelf."

Instead of pushing panel:
	now floor is unlocked;
		now floor is open;
		say "To your surprise, you fall through a trap door and land in a heap on the floor of a dark room.";
		move player to the Secret Room.
		
The description of the Secret Room is "You are in some sort of Secret Room. The room is completely empty apart from a small, metal key. Neither Josh nor any clues are here. You wonder what the key opens but you also think you should probably be leaving. You are some sort of Secret Room."


The metal key is in the Secret Room.


Computer Lab is south of the East Hallway.

East Hallway is east of the Main office and south of the Library.
