"The Lost Keys of Nepal" by Kevin and George When play begins: say "[italic type]You are in Nepal, it's cold. You have warped here and you have no recollection of how you got here. You have a throbbing headache, but the wonderful landscape calms you down a bit.[line break][roman type]" Nepal is a room. "[italic type]You see pathways leading to the north, east, south, and west.[roman type]" A yak is in Nepal. The description of the yak is "The yak is brown. It is huge. It snorts." After taking yak: say "The yak didn't like that. It charges at you, and you are run over by the 580 kg yak."; end the game in death. A table is in Nepal. After examining the table, say "Who even put this here?" On the table is a moldy loaf of bread. The table is fixed in place. The moldy loaf of bread is edible. The bread key is in the container. The description of the bread key is "A key made of bread? Strange." After examining the moldy loaf of bread: move the bread key to the player; remove the moldy loaf of bread from play. After eating the moldy loaf of bread: say "You bite down on something hard and you accidentally swallow it.[line break][bold type]You probably needed that." Rule for printing the name of the moldy loaf of bread: say "moldy loaf of bread"; omit contents in listing. The description of the moldy loaf of bread is "You can see something jutting out of the bread. You rip open the bread and you take the object. It's a key made of bread." Number of locks remaining is a number that varies. Number of locks remaining is 4. A Mysterious doorway is west of Nepal. The description of the mysterious doorway is "There is an ancient looking doorway in front of you. There are [number of locks remaining] empty slot(s) around it, each with a distinct keyhole. This is probably your exit to get back home. Once all four keys have been put here, you can walk through the portal." After going west from Nepal while the bread key is carried: say "[bold type]Mysterious doorway [line break]"; say "[roman type] There is an ancient looking doorway in front of you. There are [number of locks remaining] empty slot(s) around it, each with a distinct keyhole. This is probably your exit to get back home. Once all four keys have been put here, you can walk through the portal.[line break][line break]"; say "You put the bread key in the first slot and the lock disappears."; remove bread key from play; decrease number of locks remaining by 1. A Cave entrance is north of Nepal. "You start towards the north side of Nepal, and come across a large opening leading to a cave. Piles of boulders are stacked in the corners, and you feel the ground's rough edges as you stumble across." In the cave entrance is a small wooden raft. The description of the small wooden raft is "It's an unused wooden raft with two paddles. Small and light enough to carry." In the cave entrance is a lot of stalagmites. The description of the lot of stalagmites is "Pointy." Instead of taking the lot of stalagmites, say "Those would be way to heavy to carry." Big cave is north of cave entrance. It is a dark room. "You look around the cave, now that it's no longer dark." The Silver Key is in the big cave. The description of the silver key is "It's a silver key!" A Lake shore is east of Nepal. "From here, you can see a large lake in front of you. There is an island in the distance to the east, but it's too far away to swim to." An Island is a room. The description of the island is "You use the small wooden raft and slowly row your way to the island. It seems almost bare." There is a Large stone in the island. "There's a large stone. The large stone sounds hollow when you knock on it. Maybe there is something inside." The large stone is fixed in place. The large stone is a locked container. In the large stone is a Copper Key. The description of the copper key is "It's a copper key!". A forest is in island. The description of the forest is "A line of oak trees are clustered here. You could explore it if you didn't have an irrational fear of trees." Instead of taking the forest, say "How." A var is a room. The var is east of Lake shore. A var2 is a room. The var2 is west of the island. Instead of going east from the Lake shore while the small wooden raft is not carried, say "You cannot swim that far" Instead of going west from the Island: say "(You row back to the shore.)"; move player to lake shore Instead of going east from the Lake Shore while Stone Pickaxe is carried: Move player to Island; say "You smash open the stone with the stone pickaxe, and the pickaxe breaks. The stone cracks open and a Copper key is revealed. You pick it up."; move the Copper key to player; remove the stone pickaxe from play; remove the large stone from play. Instead of going east from the Lake shore while the small wooden raft is carried: move player to Island A Gate is south of Nepal. "A small village is seen in the distance, but it's blocked by a gate.". A Tour guide is a person. A Tour guide is in gate. "You see a tour guide who is smoking a cigarette. He looks American." Tour guide carries a lighter. After going to gate while the unlit torch is carried, say "[bold type]Gate[roman type][line break]The tour guide sees you carrying an unlit torch. 'Oh!' he says. 'I could light that for ya if you pass it.'" A lit torch is in var. lit torch is a lit thing. Instead of giving the unlit torch to tour guide: say "You pass the unlit torch to the tour guide and he lights it with his lighter. He hands the torch back to you, now lit."; remove unlit torch from play; move lit torch to player. A Village is south of gate. "You push open the gate and stand in the middle of the village. There are not many people." A Lemonade stand is in village. The description of the lemonade stand is "A kid is selling lemons. Very nice." Instead of taking the lemonade stand, say "Now that would be rude." A Sign is in village. The description of the sign is "N: VILLAGE GATE, E: MINESHAFT, W: BAR". The sign is fixed in place. A Bar is west of the village. barman is a number that varies. barman is 1. After reading a command while in the bar and barman is 1: if the player's command matches "487": now the golden chest is unlocked; say "You input the code and the lock clicks open, and the barman says, 'Very well. Ah let's see what is in this boy... what? A plain old key? Bah, ain't got a use f0r it, keep it if you want.' You pick the key up."; move the gold key to player; now barman is 0; stop the action; if the player's command matches "leave": move the player to village; say "You left the bar and walked back out into the village."; stop the action; if the player's command matches "e": move the player to village; stop the action; if the player's command matches "east": move the player to village; stop the action; otherwise: say "The barman kicks you out of the bar. He yells, 'AHH you fool, GET OUT! And don't come back!'"; move player to village; now barman is 2; stop the action; After going to bar while barman is 1: say "[bold type]Bar[roman type][line break]As you walk in, you are greeted by a grumpy barman, who says, 'I'm in a bad mood. If you can't open this gold chest here, then get out and stay out.' He has a knife. You look at the lock placed on the gold chest. It requires a three digit code.[line break][italic type](Enter what you think the code is, or you can type 'leave' to exit the bar)[roman type]". After going to bar while barman is 0: say "[bold type]Bar[roman type][line break]The barman greets you. 'Hello there!'". After going to bar while barman is 2: say "[bold type]Bar[roman type][line break]The barman say, 'I told you not to come back.' He runs at you with the knife and slices your stomach. Ouch."; end the game in death. A Golden chest is a locked container in the bar. In the golden chest is a Gold Key. The description of the gold key is "It's a golden key!". A Mineshaft is east of village. "You descend into the mineshaft. It's dark, but there are dim lights all around you. The mineshaft continues deeper if you keep walking east." An unlit torch is in the mineshaft. "You see a torch that hasn't been lit yet.". The description of the unlit torch is "A stick that can catch on fire. Very useful for dark areas, if it was lit." A Deeper into the mineshaft is east of the mineshaft. "You keep walking and reach the bottom of the mine. Darkness consumes you, and you can barely see much. On the wall in front of you, there are strange engravings scratched into it, although it is too dark to see what it says." A skeleton is in deeper into the mineshaft. The description of the skeleton is "You see a humanoid skeleton laying on the ground. A terrible chill goes down your spine." Instead of taking the skeleton, say "Just the thought of touching that thing stops you." A Minecart is in deeper into the mineshaft. The mine cart is a container. After going to deeper into the mineshaft while the lit torch is carried, say "[bold type]Deeper into the mineshaft[roman type][line break]With your now lit torch, you can read the engravings. It reads 'code 487'. You see a minecart and a skeleton". Instead of looking in the deeper into the mineshaft while the lit torch is carried, say "You keep walking and reach the bottom of the mine. The engravings on the wall reads 'code 487'". After examining the minecart, say "There are small rocks in the cart. They don't seem very useful." In the minecart is a Stone Pickaxe. The description of the stone pickaxe is "It's a sharp mining tool. Looks like it's used for breaking rocks.". Instead of taking the minecart, say "It's really heavy.". After going west from Nepal while the Copper key is carried: say "[bold type]Mysterious doorway [line break]"; say "[roman type] There is an ancient looking doorway in front of you. There are [number of locks remaining] empty slot(s) around it, each with a distinct keyhole. This is probably your exit to get back home. Once all four keys have been put here, you can walk through the portal.[line break][line break]"; say "You put the Copper key in the second slot and the lock disappears."; remove Copper key from play; decrease number of locks remaining by 1. After going west from Nepal while the silver key is carried: say "[bold type]Mysterious doorway[line break]"; say "[roman type] There is an ancient looking doorway in front of you. After going west from Nepal while the Gold key is carried: say "[bold type]Portal [line break]"; say "[roman type] There is an ancient looking doorway in front of you. There are [number of locks remaining] empty slot(s) around it, each with a distinct keyhole. This is probably your exit to get back home. Once all four keys have been put here, you can walk through the portal.[line break][line break]"; say "You put the Gold key in the fourth slot and the lock disappears."; remove Gold key from play; decrease number of locks remaining by 1; Portal is west of the mysterious doorway. "You walk past the doorway. A black portal frame surrounds you. Nothing happens." After going to portal while number of locks remaining is 0: end the story saying "After inserting all four keys, a mystical and glassy purple film forms in front of you. [italic type](You feel the air getting colder around you, and your mind goes numb...) [roman type][bold type]You cautiously step towards the portal, but an unknown force pulls you in and throws you out into a new world. Looking up, you realize you are back in your living room. You start to remember why you were teleported to Nepal in the first place...".
