"Looking for Food" by Ian Berry The story creation year is 2018. The maximum score is 3. [INTRODUCTION] When play begins: say "You wake up and slowly blink your eyes. A bright light blinds you as you struggle to get your bearings. You are lying down in a grassy meadow. The sun is shining brightly in the blue sky to the East of you. You see trees off in the distance. There are snow-capped mountains lining the horizon. Somewhere close by, a bird sings.[paragraph break]You realize that your lips are cracked, and your throat dry. Your stomach growls. You are parched and need water, and the only way to satisfy your hunger is with a hearty meal: meat and bread.[Bold type] It's time to look for food.[Bold type]This area is unfamiliar to you. There are no major landmarks to direct yourself with, but a column of smoke rises in the distance. That smoke may indictate that there's a house there. Suddenly, you remember that the sun rises in the East, and are able to orient yourself. The house is to the north.[Roman type][paragraph break]"; now left hand status line is "Exits: [exit list]"; now right hand status line is "[location]". To say exit list: let place be location; repeat with way running through directions: let place be room way from the location; if place is a room, say "[way]". [OUTSIDE THE HOUSE] Outside the house is a room. "You approach the house. You find yourself standing in a grassy field ringed by trees. Some appear to have been cut down. In the center of the field is a spartan-constructed wooden cottage. Every plank is a different shape but they are obviously from the same trees. You see smoke float out of the chimney. The house has two windows and a wooden door to the living room. The door is to the north. A trail of footsteps lead away from the door into the trees." A wooden door is a door. The wooden door is north of Outside The House and south of Living Room. To say exit list: Let place be location; repeat with way running through directions: let place be the room way from the location; if place is a room, say " [way]". [LIVING ROOM] Living room is a room. "You find yourself standing inside of what is obviously someone's home. There are paintings hanging throughout the living room. The floor is paneled with the same wood the house is built from. There is a fire dying in the fireplace. You see a small cot in the corner of the room.[paragraph break]" The small cot is scenery in the living room. The description is "A small, handmade cot for sleeping. This doesn't look much more comfortable than the floor." The fireplace is scenery in the living room. The description is "A small fireplace constructed with stone. A fire is dying inside. Whoever lives here must have just left." The wooden table is a scenery supporter in the living room. The description is "A simply-built wooden table. It appears someone has eaten here recently. There is a half-eaten loaf of bread resting in the center. There is a piece of roasted meat resting on the table." Loaf of bread is an object. It was definitely part of somebody else's dinner, but your stomach was growling and you had no other choice." After taking water: increase the score by 1; say "You drink the water.
