"A Perfect Day for It" Sunrise is a scene. Sunrise begins when play begins. Sunrise ends well when player is early. Sunrise ends poorly when player is late. The Bedroom is a room. "The blue skies stretch out in front of you, beckoning you forth until they are cut off by the high dark mountain belching thick black smoke directly ahead. The adrenaline pumps through your body and you can feel your heartbeat in all your limbs as you grip your sword tighter and dig your heels into your powerful steed. As you ride across the fields pursuing the enemy, you begin to hear the music get louder. Quickly you recognize the them to Legend of Zelda. Then you realize you are still in your bed. You can hit your alarm to snooze or wake up." A desk is here. "Your desk is sitting in the corner of the room with homework waiting to be done. Eh, they'll be time tomorrow for that." On the desk is a book. On the desk is a computer. On the desk is a trophy. The description of the book is "Your textbook for your Western Civilization class. Definitely not the most exciting class." The description of the computer is "The gentle hum of the computer that lulls you to sleep every night is still going in the background. On the screen is that article you read last night. Apparently video games are being used to treat ADD now. Well now you have an argument next time your mom accuses your gaming of making you inattentive." The description of the trophy is "Your big shiny trophy from when you won that statewide Halo tournament. Everyone always told you that video games wouldn't take you anywhere, but look at this. You won a big fat trophy and a bunch of cash just for playing what you enjoy!! That's more than you ever got from playing soccer. That doesn't matter now though, you quickly remember that there is a new game in your den just waiting to be played." The wall is here. On the wall is a picture. The description of the picture is "Your high school senior soccer photo. You were definitely in better shape back then, but being fit isn't everything. It can be a lot more fun to sit back and play some games than have your coach make you run until you puke. Speaking of which, there is a new game in your xbox just waiting to be played." A person can be early or late. The Player is early. A night stand is here. "Next to your bed is the night stand with your alarm on it." The alarm is a switched on device in the Bedroom. "[if switched on]BEEP...BEEP...BEEP... (hit snooze or turn off alarm)[otherwise]You finally silenced your alarm clock." Understand "turn off [something switched on]" as switching off. Snoozing is an action applying to nothing. Understand "hit snooze" or "snooze" as snoozing. Carry out snoozing: if alarm is switched on: now the player is late; say "You lean over, tap that big, beautiful snooze button only t0 wake up 9 minutes later just as groggy. BEEP...BEEP...BEEP... "; otherwise: say "Now that you're awake, why don't you head south to the kitchen?". The Kitchen is a room. The Kitchen is south of the Bedroom. "You enter the kitchen to find your mother working on something." In the kitchen is a fridge. The fridge is openable container. The fridge is closed. Inside the fridge is root beer. The description of root beer is "Mmm, that looks refreshing. Root Beet, the drink of champions." In the kitchen is a freezer. The freezer is an openable container. The freezer is closed. In the freezer is ice cream. The description of ice cream is "Cool, cream, and delicious. Ice Cream, the dessert of champions." Pleasant Breakfast is a scene. Pleasant Breakfast begins when Sunrise ends well. Pleasant Breakfast ends when the Mother is quiet. When Pleasant Breakfast begins, say " " Dull Breakfast is a scene. Dull Breakfast begins when Sunrise ends poorly. Dull Breakfast ends when the Mother is quiet. When Dull Breakfast begins, say " " Mother is a woman in the kitchen. A person can be talkative or quiet. Mother is talkative. Understand "talk to [someone]" as attacking. Instead of attacking Mother: now Mother is quiet; if Sunrise ended poorly: say "Your mother glances up from the magazine she is reading, 'You finally got up. It's about time. I was gonna make you breakfast earlier but you weren't here. Your loss.'"; if Sunrise ended well: say "Your mother smiles, saying 'I'm glad you were able to get out of bed this morning. You must have some new game you're getting ready to play. Oh, well. Here you go.' and she hands you the steaming breakfast. 'What's your plan for the day? Play some videogames?' she says apathetically" When Pleasant Breakfast ends: remove Mother from play; say "After a hearty breakfast, you're ready to take on the challenges of any game your way. Let's head east and get some gaming on."; now the command prompt is "after exploring Kitchen, go east >" When Dull Breakfast ends: remove Mother from play; say "After finishing her coffee, your mother gets up and leaves."; now the command prompt is "after exploring Kitchen, go east >" The Den is east of the Kitchen. "Your Man-Cave. Oh the hours you have spent in this beautiful room. As you walk in, you swear you can see the T. V. start to glow for you before you even turn it on. You gaming chair awaits you with open arms, the mini fridge hums with the promise of sugar and caffeine. Even the sun dims itself behind the clouds as you enter. The whole room, no! The entire universe knows that today is the day you will beat your new game. The stage is set. The adventure begins." In The Den is an xbox. The xbox is a device. The description of the xbox is "As you look lovingly at this beautiful machine, you think back to that fateful Christmas last year when you awoke to this marvel all plugged in and ready to go. It was love at first sight. Since that day you have kept each other constant company, adventuring, solving puzzles, rescuing princesses, fighting off aliens, saving the world, and so much more. Today is the start of yet another beautiful journey which could deepen your growing relationship and save you both from a day of boredom...... or perhaps not." In the den is a mini fridge. The mini fridge is an openable container. The mini fridge is closed. Inside the mini fridge are sodas. Sodas are an edible object. In the den is a gaming chair. a gaming chair is an enterable fixed in place supporter. The description of gaming chair is "This is the faithful chair that took you all the way through your Halo tournament. It has speakers, cup holders, extra cushioning, and it can swivel and recline. This baby has it all." Front Yard is a room. Front Yard is west of the kitchen. "It's a beautiful day outside. The deep blue sky is populated by big fluffy silvery clouds, and a cool breeze protects you from getting too hot. The perfect place to think and get inspiration." Text Message is a scene. Text Message begins when XBox is switched on. Text Message ends when Phone is switched off. Gameplay is a scene. Gameplay begins when Text Message ends. Gameplay ends well when phone is answered. Gameplay ends sadly when phone is ignored. When Text Message begins: say "[line break]Your phone buzzes. It's a text from your best friend."; now the command prompt is "type 'respond' or 'ignore' >" When Gameplay begins: say "[paragraph break]You sit down and get totally engrossed in your game. The clock ticks away in the background, but your don't feel time passing. After a brief hour, your phone buzzes again. Glancing at it, you see you don't recognize the number."; now the command prompt is "type 'respond' or 'ignore' >" Responding is an action applying to nothing. Understand "respond" as responding. Carry out responding: if Text Message is happening: Now the phone is switched off; say "[paragraph break]You tell your friend that you can’t hang out until you get through this game. He thinks you are lame, but understands. He gives you a heads up on the boss battle, it’s a real killer apparently. You might need some inspiration to figure it out."; if Gameplay is happening: say "[paragraph break]You answer and Marie, the cute girl from your biology class asks if you want to have a study date this week. You excitedly say yes and begin to formulate a way to ask her out. As the boss crumbles before you and the credits finish rolling you head into the kitchen to make yourself a tall foamy root beer float of victory. As you drift off to sleep that night you become a new hero championing new causes, defeating new villains, and saving new people."; award 10 points; end the game in victory When Second Gametime ends: now the phone is unused. This will require a lot more focus, but another day. For now you just can’t get anywhere. Everything just keeps reminding you that you never made it through that game though. You can’t get rid of this nagging feeling. This was supposed to be the day of conquest.
