"Finding Tom" by Lauren Brumfield When play begins: say "[italic type]Tom is playing hide & seek in the big house in front of you. You are tired and ready to go home, but you need to find him first. As you open the front door, you stumble upon a few paths...[roman type]". The Hallway is a room. "You're standing in the middle of the hallway on a welcome rug. There are rooms on either side of you and straight ahead. Remember, there's also a second story to the house. Where is Tom?" The Upstairs is a room. The Upstairs is up from the Hallway. The latch is a door. "You see a latch at the top of the stairs. Try opening it." The latch is south of upstairs. The latch is lockable and locked. The Kitchen is a room. The Kitchen is east of the Hallway. "You have reached the Kitchen." A island is here. "In the center of the room, you see an island with three bar stools. One of the bar stools is moving. You may want to find out why." The description is "Tom is behind the island, underneath the barstool!" After examining the island: say "Now the two of you can go home."; end the story. The Office is a room. The office is north of the Hallway. "You have reached the office." A desk is here. "In the center of the room, you see a desk. You may want to check it out to see if Tom is hiding behind it." The description is "Tom is not underneath the desk. An angry cat is, however." After examining the desk: say "The angry cat scratches you on the neck. You bleed out before you can call for help."; end the story saying "You have died". The Living Room is a room. The Living Room is west of the Hallway. "You have reached the Living Room." A couch is here. "In the corner of the room, you see a couch. Check behind it for Tom." The description is "Tom is not behind the couch. A snake is, however." After examining the couch: say "The snake bites you on the ankle and then venom spreads throughout your body."; end the story saying "You have died".
