"Island Adventure" When play begins: say "Hello. This is my first try at a text adventure. It's short, and simple. Hopefully, I'll add more once I learn more. Thanks!
At Least the Weather is Nice
Salty, sea water lightly splashes your face. You awaken face down on the shore of what appears to be tropical island. You stand brushing off wet sand from your face and overall body. You look up and see there isn't a cloud in the sky. The sun is pleasantly warm.
The last thing you remember was partying on the deck of a cruise ship. A storm had suddenly picked up, and you had tried to get indoors. The ship sharply jerked to the side. Somehow you were knocked off the side rails. Then everything went black." The Shore is south of the Southern Jungle. "[if Shore is unvisited] The beach is quiet save the water hitting the shore. Looking around, you notice you are alone. You wonder if you're the only person to have fallen off the ship. Or worse, the only survivor. To the north, you see some palm trees and a natural, sandy pathway into the jungle. To the south, all you see is the open sea. The waves appear relatively calm. To the west, you see the beach continue. To the east, you see the beach continue as well.[end if] [if Shore is visited] The path into the jungle is north. The open sea is south. The beach continues to the east and west. [end if]" The Sea is south of the Shore. "[if Sea is unvisited]You walk knee deep into the water. It's nice and warm. Looking down, you see how clear the water is. No shells or wildlife. Just smooth, untouched sand. Looking ahead to the south, you see something in the distance. You can't make out what it is. If you swim south, you may see what it is.[end if] [if Sea is visited] You walk back knee deep in water. You still see something further south in the distance that you can't make out. You could swim to see what it is." Instead of going south while in Sea: say "You swim further out. It looks like the ship! You swim faster, but suddenly a fin emerges from the water. In a panic, you try to swim back to shore. It's too late. The shark takes a large bite of your leg and drags you down to your grave.";end the game in death The East Shore is east of Shore. East Shore is a room. "Walking east along the shore, you notice something half buried in the sand." Here is a chest. Chest is a fixed in place closed openable locked container. The key unlocks the chest. Inside the chest is a raft. "It's large yellow chest." After unlocking the chest with the key: say "You place the bloodied key into the keyhole. You turn the key until the chest softly clicks and lifts slightly open. Inside is what appears to be an inflatable raft! You use the automatic pump to inflate the raft. You can set off south into the ocean." Ocean is south of East Shore. Every turn while in the Ocean: if score is 100 begin; say "Not far from shore, you see the ship! You use the radio to call for help. Within the hour they come to save you. You made it!"; end the game in victory; end if. Every turn while in the Ocean: if score is less than 100 begin; say "Not far from shore, you see the ship! You look around the raft frantically. You have nothing to call them! Yelling and waving your arms do nothing. It sails away. You are stranded. It won't be long before you die of starvation and loneliness."; end the game in death; end if The description of the chest is "The chest has a keyhole. Upon further inspection, it seems to have the cruise ship logo on it. It probably fell off during the storm." The West Shore is west of Shore. West Shore is a room. "Walking west along the shore, you take in the warm sun and cool water on your feet. The scenery is very peaceful." Here is a pack. It is a player's holdall. Inside the pack are rations, a book, and a radio. "A pack sits on the sand. Hopefully there's something useful in it." Understand "supplies" as pack. The description of the pack is "It's a small, olive green, canvas pack. It has some wear on it, but not enough to rip at the seams anytime soon. It can hold a few useful items." The description of the book is "Upon skimming it, it appears to be a journal. The writer suggests I carefully Examine the island. He or she says I can travel North, South, East, and West. Also, I can Eat anything edible, Take objects, and Unlock chests. There is also a warning that the Sea is dangerous. Odd." The description of the radio is "It appears to be still working. Maybe I can use it to call for help."; The rations is edible. The description of the rations is "It's a sealed packet labeled 'Dinner'. You inspect it for an expiration date. You still have a year before it goes bad. You wonder what 'Dinner' entails." After taking the pack: say "You wear the pack on your back. It isn't so heavy."; award 50 points. After eating the rations: say "It doesn't taste so bad. The taste resembled meatloaf and vegetables. It was filling enough." The South Jungle is north of Shore. South Jungle is a room. "You walk into the jungle and find a skeleton of some creature." The skeleton is in the South Jungle. It is undescribed and fixed in place. The description of the skeleton is "Trying not to wretch from the smell, you take a closer look. It looks fresh. There is something hanging off a rib bone." The key is on the skeleton. After taking key for the first time: say "Holding your breath, you carefully take the key off the rib. You give it a few flicks to get any lingering blood or flesh off of it."; award 50 points. The description of the key is "A small, blood stained key. The creature probably just ate it before it was eaten. Hate to think what dangerous creatures live on this island."
