The garden is a room. The plant-pot is a container in the garden. The printed name of the plant-pot is "plant pot". The description of the plant-pot is "A pot for plants." Understand "pot" or "plant pot" as the plant-pot. Plant Engineering is in the garden. The description of Plant Engineering is "A journal edited by Gene Wolfe." The player carries a pot-plant. The printed name of the pot-plant is "pot plant". The description of the pot-plant is "Now more or less legal in many U.S. states, though not federally." Understand "pot plant" or "plant" as the pot-plant. Planting it in is an action applying to two things. Understand "plant [something] in [something]" as planting it in. Does the player mean planting the pot-plant in something: it is likely. Does the player mean planting something in the pot-plant: it is likely. Instead of inserting something into the plant-pot: say "The plant pot is full of soil. Try planting something in it." Check planting when the noun is not the pot-plant: say "That's plainly unplantable." instead.
