"Born, Never Asked" by Matt Weiner The story headline is "A Barely Interactive Tribute". Use American dialect, no scoring, and the serial comma. The Large Room is a room. "It's a large room, full of people, all kinds. They have all arrived at the building at more or less the same time and they are all asking themselves the same question: What is behind that curtain?" The curtain is scenery in the Large room. "You can't see behind it." Alfred, Clarence, Edward, George, Isaiah, Kareem, and Mohammed are men in The Large Room. Bonnie, Diane, Felicia, Hiromi, Jade, Laurie, and Nancy are women in the Large Room. The player is Laurie. Behind the Curtain is a room. "There are all kinds of people here, too." Every turn when a person is in The Large Room: let victim be a random person in The Large Room; move victim to Behind the Curtain, without printing a room description; if the player is in Behind the Curtain: say "Where is this? What's happening?"; otherwise: say "[Victim] disappears behind the curtain." After looking in Behind the Curtain: say "Everyone shouts out:"; end the story finally saying "You were born. And now you're free. So happy birthday." Table of Final Question Options (continued) final question wording only if victorious topic final response rule "read ABOUT the game" true "ABOUT" about text rule This is the about text rule: say "'Born, Never Asked' is taken almost verbatim from the Laurie Anderson song of the same name, which can be found on her albums Big Science and United States Live. It was mostly written to show why you might want to be able to use 'move [bracket]something[close bracket] to [bracket]somewhere[close bracket], without printing a room description' even if you didn't know that it was the player that was moving." After reading a command: if the player's command matches "help" or the player's command matches "about" or the player's command matches "hint" or the player's command matches "hints" or the player's command matches "credits": follow the about text rule; reject the player's command.
