You never noticed it when you still lived here. Mom is on the internet. [end if] [if Parents' house is visited] Mom is still on the internet. [end if] " The Cave is west of the Corridor. "[if the Cave is unvisited]Good job! Interactive fiction generally involves moving room to room solving puzzles on the way. You can move any compass direction the writer has programmed in the same way. The next room is to the east. Do you know what to do?[end if][if the Cave is visited]You are in the Cave. The Corridor is to the east and the Entrance is to the south.[end if]" The Corridor is a room. "[if the Corridor is unvisited]Congrats! You now know how to move room to room in a text-based adventure. In this room there is a sign. Type 'examine sign' or 'x sign' to examine the sign.[end if][if the Corridor is visited]You are in the Corridor. The Cave is to the east and the sign will tell you where the next room is.[end if]" The sign is fixed in place in the Corridor. It is scenery. The description of sign is "You are reading the sign! The next room is above you. Type 'up' or 'u' to go up." A staircase is a kind of door. A staircase is usually open. A staircase is seldom openable. The stairs is a staircase. It is above the Corridor and below the Hallway. It is scenery. The Hallway is a room. "[if the Hallway is unvisited]Excellent! Your next step is learning about objects, doors, and opening/unlocking them. Here there is a door and a box. The door is locked. To unlock the door, you will first need a key. I wonder if there is one in that box? Type 'open box' to see what's inside.[end if][if Hallway is visited]You are in the Hallway. Below you is the Corridor and east of you is the door. You can also see a box here.[end if]" The box is a closed, fixed in place, openable container in the Hallway. It is scenery. The description of the box is "A large, heavy box that can be opened, closed, and can be used to hold things." The wooden door is a closed, locked door. It is scenery. After opening the box: say "Hey look, there's a key inside. Who would've thought? To pick up the key, type 'take key', 'get key', or 'pick up key' to take the key." After taking the key: say "Good. You can drop objects at anytime by typing 'drop' followed by the object. Go ahead and unlock the door by typing 'unlock door with key'." After unlocking the wooden door with the key: say "You unlocked the door. Type 'open door' to open it." After opening the wooden door: say "You opened the door. To go through the door, just go to the east." The Vault is a room. "[if Vault is unvisited]Very nice. You are almost at the end of our tutorial. Next, let's learn about devices. Devices are objects that can be switched on or off to affect the environment.[end if][if Vault is visited]You are in the Vault. To the west through the door is the Hallway.[end if]" The gate is a closed, locked, openable door. It is scenery. The gate is south of the Vault and north of the Study. The description of the gate is "A iron gate that can be opened with the push of a button." The button is a device in the Vault. "[if the Vault is unvisited]Here is a button and a gate that leads to the south. To open the gate, you must push the button. To press the button and open the gate, simply type 'push button' or 'press button'. Go ahead and try it now.[end if][if the Vault is visited]Here is a button that you push to open the gate to the south. Have you pushed it yet?[end if]" The button is switched off. The button is fixed in place. The description of the button is "A big, red, round button that can be used to open the gate." Instead of pushing a button: try switching on the button. Carry out switching on the button: now the gate is open; say "You did it! The gate is now open. Go south to pass through it and on to the final room." The Study is a room. "You are in the final room of our tutorial." The Wizard is a man in the Study. "[if Study is unvisited]You see a portal to the west and a Wizard here. Well then, we may have a problem. See, I forgot how to open it. If only I could remember... Say, I've heard you may have something in your inventory that could help me. Check your inventory by typing 'inventory' or 'i' and then show me something you think would help by typing 'show (object) to wizard'." After telling the Wizard about "Portal", say "So you want to go through my portal? Well then, we may have a problem. See, I forgot how to open it. If only I could remember... Say, I've heard you may have something in your inventory that could help me. Check your inventory by typing 'inventory' or 'i' and then show me something you think would help by typing 'show wizard' followed by the object that you think would help.'" Instead of showing the key to the Wizard: say "'No, no, no. How would a key help? What else do you have?'" Instead of showing cell phone to the Wizard: now the portal is open; say "'Just what I was looking for! Ok, now the portal to the west is open. Go through it to end your game.'" Every turn: if the player is in Ecstasy: say "You've solved every riddle, you've passed every obstacle, and you've gone through every room. You have completed the tutorial and are now ready to play some interactive fiction! This tutorial will have not taught you everything, but it has given you a good basis on what to do in all your future adventures. Have fun in the land of Playfic!"; end the game in victory.
