"Drop Axe" Use American dialect and brief room descriptions. The story headline is "A quick Big Bang Theory inspired adventure!". The maximum score is 10. When play begins: change the right hand status line to "[score] pts, [turn count] turn[if turn count is not 1]s[end if]"; say "You are ready to start a new adventure."; [change the command prompt to "What now?: ".] Meadow is a room. "This is a nice green meadow full of grass. There is a path heading north and a wooded copse to the east.". The Wooded Copse is east of the Meadow. "This is a small clearing with a copse of trees. There is an ugly troll here. A meadow is to the west and a swampy looking place is to the east.". The Path is north of the Meadow. "This is a dead-end gravel path with a meadow to the south.". The Mire is east of the Copse. "This is a wet, sandy hole. A small copse of trees sits to the west and small hill rises to the north.[if the axe is not carried] You squish a bit in the wet, icky mess.[end if][if the quicksand is solved] You've learned your lesson and skirt the deep parts of the mire, staying clear of the treacherous sand.[end if]". The Grass-Covered Knoll is north of the mire. "This is a beautiful, grass-covered knoll. [if unvisited]You could lie here for hours and watch the clouds roll by.[end if]". [-- Troll --] The big ugly troll is a fixed in place thing. The troll is in the copse. The description of the troll is "The troll is big, ugly and very angry. You don't really know why and probably shouldn't ask." Instead of doing something other than examining or attacking the troll: say "The troll looks at you crossly, then bites your face off."; end the game in death. [-- Troll's dead body --] The big ugly troll's dead body is a fixed in place thing. "The troll's dead body is here, stinking up the place.". The description of the dead body is "It's a stinky slimy dead troll. Yech.". Understand "troll" as the dead body. Instead of taking the dead body, say "It's way to huge for me to lift. And besides, it stinks like rotting garbage." The battle axe is in the path. The description of the axe is "It's big and very heavy. But it's also sharp.". The small pebble is in the meadow. The description of the pebble is "It's small and round, slightly red and smells vaguely of fish.". The soft cushion is in the Path. The description of the cushion is "It's soft and fluffy, probably stuffed with baby bunny fur." Understand "pillow" as the soft cushion. The fantastic treasure is in the Knoll. The description of the fantastic treasure is "It's so fantastically shiny!!". After taking the treasure when the treasure is not handled: award 10 points; say "Soooooo pretty!"; continue the action. Every turn: if the score is the maximum score: end the game saying "You are victorious!". [-- Quicksand and sinking timer --] The quicksand is scenery in the Mire. The description of the quicksand is "This quicksand stinks to high heaven, even worse than the dead troll, if you can believe it. It's everywhere and I seem to be sinking in it!". Understand "hole" and "sand" and "stinky" as quicksand. The quicksand can be solved. The quicksand is not solved. The quicksand has a number called sinking-count. The sinking-count is 5. Every turn: if the player is in the Mire and the sinking-count of the quicksand is greater than 0 and the axe is carried: decrease the sinking-count of the quicksand by 1; if the sinking-count of the quicksand is 4: say "You've sunk into the quicksand up to your ankles. You struggle a little and realize that the quicksand is slowly sucking your heavy body into its stinking depths."; otherwise if the sinking-count of the quicksand is 3: say "You continue to sink into the quicksand. It's up to your knees."; otherwise if the sinking-count of the quicksand is 2: say "You sink further down into the quicksand. It's up to your chest now."; otherwise if the sinking-count of the quicksand is 1: say "The quicksand slowly oozes up to your chin. If only you weren't so heavy!"; otherwise if the sinking-count of the quicksand is 0: say "You succumb to the pull of the quicksand, sinking into its depths and disappearing from view."; end the game in death. Instead of dropping the axe in the Mire: say "Drop axe! Brilliant! [The noun] drops with a squish into the quicksand and slowly sinks, disappearing from view. With your new-found buoyancy, you slowly work your way to the edge of the mire, where you find surer footing."; now the quicksand is solved; remove the axe from play. [-- Change attacking to attacking with --] Understand the commands "attack" and "punch" and "destroy" and "kill" and "murder" and "hit" and "thump" and "break" and "smash" and "torture" and "wreck" as something new. Understand "attack [something] with [something preferably held]" as attacking it with. Attacking it with is an action applying to one thing and one carried thing. Understand the commands "destroy" and "kill" and "murder" and "hit" and "thump" and "smash" and "beat" as "attack". Check an actor attacking something with something (this is the can't attack a non-troll rule): if the noun is not the ugly troll and the noun is not the dead body: if the actor is the player, say "You whack [the noun] as violently as you can with [the second noun] but nothing really happens."; stop the action. Instead of attacking the troll with the cushion: say "You step forward and poke the troll gingerly with the soft cushion. The troll drops his arms, looking slightly confused. Then he shrugs and tears your face off."; end the game in death. Instead of attacking the troll with the pebble: say "You hurl the pebble at the troll. It bounces off his chest and clatters away. I don't think he noticed."; remove the pebble from play. Does the player mean attacking the dead body with the axe: it is likely. Instead of attacking the dead body with something: say "He's already dead. There's not much more you can do.". Instead of attacking the troll with the axe: say "You swing your mighty axe at the troll and he falls to the ground. You've totally killed him dead!"; remove the troll from play; move the dead body to the location. Instead of going east while the troll is in the Copse and the player is in the Copse, say "The troll growls at you menacingly. He's not going to let you pass.". Instead of going somewhere in the Mire while the axe is carried, say "You can't go anywhere as your sheer weight continues to drag you deeper into the quicksand!". test axe with "n / get all / s / get all / e ". test mire with "test axe / kill troll with axe / e". test dropping with "test axe / kill troll with axe / drop axe". test win with "test mire / drop axe / n / take treasure"
