On closer inspection, there is a little slip of paper sticking out from between the pages." Instead of taking the green book: say "The book does not move when you go to pick it up. It seems to be glued to the shelf." Instead of taking the slip of paper: say "You pull the paper out of the book and see that it is a scrap of notebook paper that looks like it was torn out of someone's notes for class. In red pen, someone wrote D122."
